An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (30 hours a week) Consultant Psychologist (Band 8C) to provide clinical leadership for the developing Tier 3 Complex Emotional Needs service (known internally as the Hiraeth). The service aims to deliver enhanced support and interventions to individuals who have not benefited from care and treatment delivered by Tier 2 services (CMHT or local inpatient provision), who present with a high level of risk and/or impairment and have frequent unplanned use of contacts and crisis/acute care.

The post holder will be joined by a newly recruited operational lead for the service who will support the leadership of the Hiraeth Service on a day-to-day basis.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be involved in delivering the following:

.Providing clinical and strategic leadership to the Hiraeth team;

.Supporting the clinical and strategic development of care pathways for people who present with complex mental health needs, both for the team and across the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division.

.Clinical oversight to support the delivery of interventions which focus on promoting and maintaining engagement and allow for collaborative risk management plans consistent with a philosophy of shared care.

.Ensuring provision of a service which aids transitions across service which include both step down and repatriation.

.Supporting the development of comprehensive MDT formulations and interventions for people with complex needs.

.Offering input to the established teaching and training of health board staff aimed at increasing knowledge, skill and compassion in working with individuals with complex, severe and enduring distress and mental health needs.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

The successful candidate will join a friendly, highly skilled and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team who are based at St Cadoc's Hospital in Caerleon, Gwent. It is an exciting time to be joining the service as we develop a responsive and flexible Tier 3 service which is keen to prioritise repatriation and the prevention of long-term hospital placements far from home. We seek to offer flexible, intensive and person-centred community based interventions. We have good links with our local acute inpatient units and the successful candidate would offer dedicated input to the local female locked rehabilitation unit (Bellevue) as part of their role.

The Hiraeth Team is a friendly, psychology-led team who are passionate about what we do and how we do it. The post holder would be professionally managed by the Head of Psychology for Adult Mental and there will be plentiful opportunity for professional support and supervision, including a monthly psychology speciality meeting and a quarterly Gwent-Wide Psychology meeting in addition to regular opportunity for contact with psychology colleagues working in other teams across the mental health directorate. We value the importance of having a safe and secure base to work from which is why we appreciate access to free, readily available parking, having your own desk and access to an onsite canteen set within the beautiful grounds of St Cadoc's Hospital in Caerleon.
