We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to support the Pharmacy Aseptic Services in the provision of chemotherapy to patients within the Trust.

We are looking for a qualified technician with experience to join our small friendly team. You will have recent hospital or aseptic experience, good communication skills, and a good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice. You will also have experience of teamwork, staff supervision, training others and work planning.

Job responsibilities

NEWLY QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS ARE WELCOME APPLY - FULL TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED

Keytasks will include the following:

To assist and supervise, to a high quality, the provision of a chemotherapy compounding service and ensure the safe accurate provision of supportive medication. To support the roles of and work under the supervision of the Chief Technician & Accountable Pharmacist.

Mainduties
  • To assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and high-quality aseptic pharmacy service to the Trusts patients.
  • To assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and high-quality dispensing service of supportive medication.
  • To actively encourage the adherence to all procedures relating to aseptic services and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • To have an excellent working knowledge of all procedures, guidelines, and legislation.
  • To participate in the writing, review and update of Standard Operating Procedures and other Quality Assurance (QA) documentation.
  • To liaise with pharmacists, production staff and ward staff on a daily basis, to help regulate and manage workflow efficiently.
  • Participate in Pharmacy Team meetings as required.
  • To problem solve at short notice such as stock supply, staff issues, equipment failures, capacity planning whilst maintaining the day-to-day service efficiently and safely.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • NVQ3
    • Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC (by start date)


    Desirable

    • ACPT and/or PAAP accreditation


    Skills

    Essential

    • Able to work well in a team
    • Able to train others
    • Problem solving skills
    • Computer/IT skills
    • Clear and literate writing skills
    • Attention to detail


    Experience

    Essential

    • Recent hospital or aseptic unit experience
    • Knowledge of cytotoxic handling
    • Knowledge of efficient stock control e.g. stock rotation, ordering


    Desirable

    • Experience of manufacturing aseptically prepared products in an isolator, including validations
    • Experience of working in a large multidisciplinary team


    Knowledge

    Essential

    • Good knowledge of GMP
    • Good knowledge of QA
    • Awareness of the dangers associated with handling hazardous products


    Desirable

    • Understands the importance of quality issues
