We currently have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated Sonographers to join our friendly and well supported general medical ultrasound team. You will be based at Whipps cross university hospital however there is the opportunity for cross site working to the other hospitals within Barts Health NHS Trust, which is encouraged, to enable staff to benefit from the valuable experience and scope of practice that each department has to offer, in addition to helping us meet service needs.

We would encourage both newly qualified sonographers and experienced Sonographers looking to develop their skills further to apply.

As a member of our busy and dynamic department you would be encouraged to be involved in performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including: General Abdominal, Gynecological, Small Parts, Head and Neck, Musculoskeletal, Vascular, Neonatal Head and Neonatal Hip ultrasound examinations. If you are trained in obstetric scanning and keen to maintain this skill, we can offer rotation to one of our obstetric departments within Barts Health NHS Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust offers flexible working patterns, such as full time hours over a 4 day working week including weekends plus part time hours will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging. The Sonographer will undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound Guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post-holder will work as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient within the department protocols. The post- holder will liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the directorate of Women and Children's. In the absence of a Site Lead Sonographer, the post-holder will oversee the day-to-day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively. They will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.

Although this position is a 6 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 6 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post Graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound.
  • Current and up to date state registration through a regulatory body (HCPC NMC or GMC) or RCT.


Desirable

  • To hold a BSc Hons degree or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • MSc in Medical Ultrasound.
  • DQASS Nuchal Translucency certification.


Knowledge / Experience

Essential

  • An up to date knowledge of current and emerging ultrasound techniques and relevant topics / professional issues.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to carry out and report on a full range of ultrasound examinations in Gynaecology, General Abdominal and Small Parts.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.


Desirable

  • Attendance of a clinical supervisor course.
  • Experience of post graduate teaching.
  • Training in MSK ultrasound.
  • Training in vascular ultrasound.


Skills
