Due to career progression, we are looking for an enthusiastic & motivated Occupational Therapist to join our established Respiratory team and help us ensure that we meet the Trust's vision to provide the best care for every patient.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with specialist experience within Respiratory Medicine to join our well established Respiratory/Cardiology/Oncology team ('Ologies' team). The post is for 22.5 hours per week.

The post will be based on the acute respiratory ward working our alongside both OT and MDT colleagues to implement and develop the role of Respiratory clinical specialist and providing specialist knowledge and education to our Respiratory patients.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist who is a dynamic, forward looking individual who would love the challenge of helping us implement clinical and strategic developments that will help us deliver what is most important to us - the highest quality patient care. Supporting service redesign will also be part of the role.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who will be able to demonstrate sound experience of working in a clinical occupational therapy role, ideally with respiratory patients, either in an acute or community setting. Although we are looking for someone with strong experience of working in a clinical occupational therapy role within Respiratory medicine, we are happy to consider both those already working in this area and those looking to broaden their clinical repertoire from a related or relevant alternative field.

Job responsibilities

In this role you will have:
  • exposure to and the opportunity to learn to manage a diverse caseload across various specialisms, with support and training to develop and prepare for moving into more specialist senior roles
  • access to regular and culturally embedded supervision with more experienced members of the therapy team, as well as very close working and learning links with the MDT and other professionals within and without the Trust
  • the opportunity to work across both inpatient and outpatient areas and outreaching into the community as part of a wide and varied rotation.

As post holder, you will:
  • be responsible for assessing and treating your own designated caseload of patients and maintaining their records as an autonomous practitioner
  • carry out day to day informal supervision of unregistered colleagues
  • assess risks relating to the discharge process to ensure a safe and timely discharge of patients to the most appropriate setting
  • provide advice and information to patients/ carers including instruction and training regarding use of equipment issued


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (UK)


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-qualification experience including significant experience at senior level in areas relevant to the clinical specialty.


Skills

Essential

  • Proven clinical skills in relevant specialist areas
  • Ability to supervise and delegate to other staff e.g. Assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Occupational Therapists
  • Competent IT skills (Word, Email)
