The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our hospital palliative care team based at the Royal Free Hospital site. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse with a genuine interest in palliative care, along with a commitment to continuous learning, teamwork and mutual support.

A band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist post has arisen (available from 14th November 2024). This opportunity will prove invaluable experience for those looking to develop their career either in palliative care or to enhance their experience to care for those who are dying in other care settings such as the Emergency Department, Intensive Care or for patients with long term conditions.

Main duties of the job

We will provide a supportive environment in which to develop your skills as an advance nurse practitioner. Enquiries are welcome from nurses with experience in both managing patients with chronic life threatening conditions and supporting them emotionally.

You should be creative, enthusiastic and motivated with:

- Broad and extensive experience of working with acutely unwell patients and terminally ill adults post registration.

- Excellent interpersonal skills

- The ability to work autonomously and as a team member

- Hold a first degree and post registration qualifications in oncology, palliative care or other appropriate medical speciality.

-Demonstrate significant teaching experience.

The team consists of palliative medicine consultants, palliative care clinical nurse specialists and a team administrator providing excellent palliative care to patients in the inpatient hospital setting.

Job responsibilities

The Royal Free Hospital Palliative Care team provide a seven day service for patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions who have specialist palliative care needs.

The team consists of palliative medicine consultants, palliative care clinical nurse specialists and a team administrator providing excellent palliative care to patients in the inpatient hospital setting.

This vacancy has been advertised in accordance with the new NHS pay rate which will take effect from autumn 2024. Please note if your employment starts before the 24/25 pay scales are implemented you will be paid under the 23/24 pay scales and any backpay will be adjusted accordingly. QUALIFICATIONS/ EDUCATION

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree in Palliative Care / Oncology / Critical Care / Long term condition / other relevant speciality
  • Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification and / or extensive teaching experience
  • Masters Degree in relevant subject or willing to study to this


Desirable

  • Physical Assessment Course
  • Non-Medical Nurse Prescribing
  • Counselling skills
  • Advanced Communication Skills Course


PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience as a senior nurse
  • Experience of caring for patients with advanced progressive illness
  • Experience of working in a learning environment
  • Experience of autonomous and multidisciplinary working
  • Experience in oncology / long term condition / palliative care
  • Experience of mentorship
