We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and dynamic Occupational Therapist with a proven experience in neurological rehabilitation to join our friendly multi-disciplinary Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) team, working with people who sustained traumatic brain injuries (predominately).

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join the team in providing high quality OT assessments and interventions to patients who sustained ABIs. This includes interventions to help adjustment and improve functional abilities post injury, such as basic and extended ADL, cognitive remediation and vocational support. You need to be familiar with the clinical application of the MCA and DoLS. We encourage innovative use of technology to promote rehabilitation and help generalise the impact of therapy. You will be line managing and providing supervision to a rehabilitation assistant.

Work is done in collaboration with the ABI neuropsychologist to deliver coordinated care. As part of the role there frequent joint working with regional charities, predominantly Headways.

You will be joining a team of OTs and other clinicians embedded within multi-disciplinary teams across the East and North of Hertfordshire. There are clear structures in place to support your CPD and to provide support and supervision. We have well established links with the University of Hertfordshire and provide regular placements for OTs.

As this role involves community visits and meetings at other service bases, it is essential that you have access to a car for work purposes and can travel around the county as required (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • A minimum of 5 years post registration experience
  • Experience with taking students and recent attendance at the relevant University traininG


Desirable

  • Working towards/willingness to work towards a Master qualification
  • Relevant postregistration training, E.G. splinting, Bobath, FND
  • Registration within profession specific special interest group E.G Specialist Section Neurological Practice


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Work as an autonomous practitioner
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development and reflective practice
  • Understanding and application of the OT process with evidence of advanced clinical reasoning
  • Application of specific assessment techniques
  • Assessment of patients, contributing to a diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan, from a range of modalities
  • Clinical problem solving
  • Experience of supervising and appraising other staff e.g. band 5 and rehabilitation assistants
  • Experience in delivering training to occupational therapists and other members of the MDT


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to assess patient conditions, including those of a highly complex nature, to establish a diagnosis and formulate a specialised treatment plan, from a range of modalities.
  • Highly developed physical skills, dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • Ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive information requiring empathy and reassurance
