An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team as a Band 7 Maternity Outpatient Manager. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the operational management of the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Day Unit.

With a focus of enhancing women's experience and maximising resources, this position will provide day-to-day operational management of the antenatal outpatient care pathways, ensuring optimal delivery of midwifery and obstetric services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead corrective and timely actions to resolve issues that are impacting, or have the potential to impact, on the quality of care for women and their families. Through facilitation of interdisciplinary collaboration and strong clinical leadership the post holder will support the clinical staff to provide the best possible care to women who come to the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Day Unit.
In addition, the post holder is required to be an addition to the team of senior midwives who are part of the Maternity Unit Operational Manager of the Day rota. This will involve supporting the whole maternity department and coordination of activities across the services, both clinically and operationally, to continuously improve service levels and provide appropriate responses to problems, changes in operational demands and emergency situations
The role requires credible midwifery experience in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care high influencing and change management skills and an ability to operationally manage and develop others.

Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team
Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence
Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Midwives rules and codes of practice
Organisational / Management Responsibilities:
Be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the Antenatal Clinic and Maternity Day Unit (MDU) to provide assistance, advice and support for staff
Provide day-to-day operational management for the Antenatal Clinic and MDU, ensuring optimal delivery of services and where appropriate leading corrective timely actions to resolve operational issues that are impacting, or have the potential to impact, on service delivery
In conjunction with the Midwifery Matron, lead, evaluate and develop the Antenatal Clinic and MDU services, ensuring high quality, efficient and effective antenatal care which is innovative and responsive to the needs of the women and their families
Oversee the clinical pathways within the Antenatal Clinic and MDU to ensure there is a safe, cost-effective provision of all services that run smoothly and efficiently
Proactively manage the Antenatal Clinic referrals and follow up appointments to ensure that women are seen by the appropriate professional and within an appropriate time as per NICE guidelines and the Trusts policies and procedures
Liaise with Consultant Obstetricians to ensure the provision of timely and appropriate obstetric input for women on MDU
Facilitate dissemination of key service information and initiatives throughout the multidisciplinary team:
Ensure rotas are in place which ensures safe, efficient and cost-effective provision of staff
Line manage the Antenatal Clinic and MDU staff, ensuring that they are managed in accordance with the Trusts HR policies and procedures. This includes recruitment and selection, performance management, appraisal, training and personal development
Work with the Midwifery Matron in the planning, implementation and continuing development of patient and public involvement (PPI) within the outpatient areas
Ensure that any complaints are dealt with at first point of contact wherever possible and written complaints are responded to in a timely manner
Clinical Leadership:
Be accountable for own professional actions in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for the Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor
Create an environment in which excellent clinical care will flourish and individuals take ownership for their own development
Provide clear, visible leadership, strategic vision and professional clinical expertise to ensure every aspect of the hospital antenatal pathway is delivered in a safe, efficient and evidence based manner
Work with the Midwifery Matron to promote high quality autonomous midwifery antenatal care
Maintain a clinical environment within the Antenatal Clinic and MDU that is conducive to high standards of care
Work with the multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and evaluate care for women and ensure they are on the correct antenatal pathway
Provide expert advice to others, educating and supporting midwives and junior obstetric staff in the antenatal clinical areas
Provide proactive support, and where necessary challenge, to ensure that clinical flow and pathways are efficient and women centred
Provide direct clinical care and support in all areas of the maternity service as dictated by the Maternity Escalation status
Clinical Governance:
Be accountable for ensuring that Clinical Governance standards are upheld in the antenatal services pathways, working with the Clinical Quality and Safety Midwife the Clinical Effectiveness Midwife, Audit Lead and the Practice Development team to respond to information and advice provided and to ensure that patient safety and quality standards are maintained
Within area of responsibility, ensure that all risks (clinical and non-clinical) are identified, assessed and reported on the Directorate risk register and take appropriate action, with the senior management team as appropriate, to mitigate risks highlighted
Ensure that all clinical incidents within the Antenatal Clinic and MDU are analysed and that an appropriate level of investigation is initiated.
Financial & Physical Resource:
Take overall management responsibility for the Antenatal and MDU budgets identifying and acting upon any trends/risks or shortfalls relating to these budgets, seeking the involvement of the Midwifery Matron
Support the delivery of the Directorate and Trust financial plans with a particular focus on cost/value for money and delivery of agreed financial savings
In conjunction with the Midwifery Matron, take responsibility for the delivery, implementation and performance management within the Antenatal Clinic and MDU of operational strategy, business plans and workforce planning, working within budgetary constraints.
Service development implementation:
Assess and teach others in the clinical setting
