Are you an orthopaedic practitioner or working in orthopaedics with a flare for treating patients in our busy plaster rooms? We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join our team. We are looking for a keen plaster technician/orthopaedic practitioner to join our team.

The post holder will routinely work across site when required, supporting the Wycombe and Stoke plaster room

Main duties of the job

  • Act at all times in accordance with the British Orthopaedic Association Code of Conduct within the principles of the scope of Professional Practice.
  • To provide an acute casting service dealing with traumatised patients within the A& E Department applying back slabs - full casts.
  • To assist in the application of specialise casting/splinting, for the National Spinal Injuries Centre in the treatment of paralysed patients.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and also interpersonal issues with colleagues.
  • To routinely apply casts using plaster of paris, synthetic casting tape and thermo plastics. Complex applications may include tibia, humeral, cast/dynamic bracing also the removable of cast. It is required to apply functional bracing, tiptoe walkers and hip spikers for paediatrics.
  • To routinely fit orthopaedic appliances e.g. wrist splints, knee and elbow braces, spinal bracing, collars and below knee walkers etc.
  • To undertake the removal of sutures, apply simple dressings when necessary.
