We are pleased to offer a unique Band 5-6 development career progression post and opportunity for highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to gain experience within HPFT's Community Specialist Learning Disability Services (SLDS).

The Band 5 - 6 SLT will work within a framework, which allows for an analysis of learning against a set level of competencies that would be expected of a Band 6 Specialist SLT within a Community Assessment and Treatment Service. The development programme will be a combination of formal, taught training and supported practice within the workplace. Trainees will be allocated a supervisor throughout the process who will be responsible for inducting them into their workplace, supporting their practice, assessing their progress against the competency framework and identifying areas for further development.

The Trainee will work as a Band 5 SLT under supervision whilst they are developing the knowledge and skills within this competency framework. They will be allocated their own caseload to manage, the complexity of which, should increase in line with knowledge and skills gained.

In addition to this competency framework, the Band 5 SLT will also be expected to complete the Newly Qualified Practitioner Competencies as set out by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RSCLT).

Main duties of the job

This is an ideal post for either a newly qualified SLT, or an experienced SLT wishing to progress to a Band 6 with existing dysphagia competencies. The postholder will receive regular clinical supervision and support and will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development.

The successful candidates will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team and will join the well-established Speech and Language Therapy service.

This post sits within a well-established SLT team working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary service. The post holder will benefit from formal supervision as well as excellent peer support. There is a strong ethos of Continuous Quality Improvement throughout the service and the Trust as a whole, creating possibilities for developing and extending knowledge and skills.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should have you any queries or if you would like any additional information about this role.
