We have an opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to join our Band 6 rotations, covering a wide variety of specialist acute in- & out-patient areas Trauma, including Major Trauma, Respiratory Medicine, Oncology & Haematology, Critical Care, Neurosciences, Stroke, Burns & Plastics, Cardiothoracic & Specialist Surgery including regional transplant centre, Elderly Care & OPAL (Older persons Assessment and Liaison team) & MSK, Neuro & Respiratory Outpatients.

The service actively supports personal development for all staff. Within this role you will be involved in weekly in-service training sessions. We also provide an additional Therapy band 6 development programme to support leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in the assessment and treatment of patients across a wide variety of clinical specialties.

Applicants should have completed a core rotation in Respiratory and have Respiratory on-call experience, whilst having relevant experience in managing patients with Musculoskeletal and Neurological conditions.

You will support the supervision of band 5 physiotherapists, assistant staff & students on placement.

Key skills for this post include confidence in communication, leadership, collaborative working with peers, clinical reasoning, prioritisation, delegation and time management, and a personal desire to develop.

Within each clinical area there is the opportunity for involvement in service development, audit and research. The department has a strong emphasis on personal development with links to the School of Nursing, AHPs & Midwifery, and several Universities across the region.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Appropriate Physiotherapy or professional qualification e.g. MCSP/ BSc or MSc.
  • *State Registration with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC)
  • *CSP or equivalent professional registration.
  • *Evidence of commitment to advanced clinical and non-clinical continued professional development within own speciality, e.g. post registration training, management competencies and evidence of a detailed personal development portfolio.
  • *Relevant, accredited, postgraduate education/courses and CPD


Desirable

  • *Attended Clinical Educators course
  • *Evidence of leadership training


Experience

Essential

  • *Considerable post registration experience of which should include an acute NHS organisation and completion of core rotations in MSK, Neuro, and Respiratory or significant patient experience in these areas.
  • *Experience of staff management e.g. supervision and support of staff.
  • *Competent knowledge and skill in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex acute and chronic clinical presentations.
  • *Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • *Good knowledge and application of all areas of Clinical Governance including Quality, Audit and Risk management
  • *Knowledge and understanding of the research process with reference to awareness of EBP and application to clinical practice, using good clinical reasoning skills.
  • *Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • *Good understanding of principles of data and statistics and experience of their use in evaluation of service delivery
  • *Good understanding of IT systems and its application to clinical practice.
  • *Competent knowledge and skill in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex acute and chronic clinical presentations.
  • *Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • *Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area & undertake clinical analysis and reasoning skills in the assessment and treatment of patients and apply broad standards & guidelines to own practice.
  • *Good clinical reasoning
  • *Able to demonstrate the ability to select and apply a range treatment options for a range of clinical presentations.
  • *Able to demonstrate advanced physical skills especially in precision, dexterity and hand-eye/sensory co-ordination in order to undertake e.g. palpation and mobilisation at an advanced level.
  • *Good verbal & written skills able to communicate complex clinical information in a clear and logical manner to patients, colleagues and other healthcare professional concerning a wide range of clinical situations.
  • *Good organisational skills including prioritisation and delegation
  • *On-call skills and able to provide advice and patient assessment as a lone physiotherapist in an on-call situation
  • *Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and Health and Safety to meet the differing needs of patients.
  • *Strong sense of professional integrity, and compliance with Trust vision and values.
  • *Ability to be self-motivated and to motivate team.
