We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Programmes to lead our IM& T / Digital Services digital transformation portfolio of work. This senior leadership role is pivotal in driving the successful delivery of digital transformation initiatives, ensuring the provision of high-quality, safe, and effective patient care across our hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the IM& T / Digital Services digital transformation portfolio of work, overseeing the delivery of extremely large and complex digital initiatives
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to promote digitally enabled service transformation to enable the delivery of the Clinical Strategy
  • Manage financial budgets, ensuring cost-effective and benefits driven delivery of digital solutions
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Proven experience in IT operational leadership within large organisations.
  • Strong track record of managing and delivering complex digital programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector is highly desirable.


Main duties of the job

The Head of Digital Programmes will be the Trust's Head of delivering major Digital change programmes to meet the strategic direction of both local and national policies.

The role has overall responsibility for the delivery of all Digital Programmes of work and is responsible for the Digital Annual Plan. The post holder will have responsibility for managing the staff within the Programme function (as well as other staff who may be allocated projects within the Digital Programme) to deliver and maintain high performing expert teams capable of delivering the Digital Annual Plan.

To lead and be responsible for Digital/IM& T communications, operationally and strategically informing and engaging the wider Trust, Digital Department and external stakeholders on Informatics plans and objectives, programmes of work, progress against plan and performance etc. to ensure that the function and impact of Informatics is thoroughly understood and embedded.

This post will be the Trust's programme lead and will provide expert professional advice on programme and strategic matters and will create and maintain a strong working relationship with all key stakeholders including, Executive Directors, Clinical Chairs, Clinical Directors, Divisional Directors, General Managers, Divisional Directors of Nursing, Heads of Nursing and other senior staff and Clinicians within the organisation.

Person Specification

Training, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience, preferably with a programme focus
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience at a senior level
  • Relevant ICT qualifications (CCIE / MCSE, PRINCE2, ITIL practitioner)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Programme setting and delivery specialist with background in Digital, with an up-to-date in-depth knowledge of PRINCE 2 and/or other relevant Project/Programme methodologies (e.g. AGILE / CCPM / Waterfall).
  • Full understanding of Industry best practice methodologies for programme delivery.
  • Expert knowledge of business plan and business case production
  • Understanding the NHS modernisation agenda and the national information strategy
  • Understanding NHS Information Governance Toolkit, particularly in regard to Digital projects
  • Ability to translate local and national requirements into a local Trust strategy and plan
  • Expert understanding of main stream Digital technologies with knowledge/experience of deployment within a large complex organisation
  • Significant expertise in staff management, coaching, team building and change management
  • Extensive programme and project management experience
  • Working near Board level, familiarity of working with Executive Directors, Senior Management and Clinical staff, including commissioners, GPs, other organisations
  • Strong programme delivery background, built up from delivering multiple technologies. Good understanding of deploying highly available mission critical systems
  • Significant experience of working at a senior level, with a strong professional reputation built on a track record of career development through delivery.
