We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive IT Platform (Infrastructure and Data Centre) Manager to oversee and manage our critical infrastructure and data center operations. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our IT infrastructure, supporting the organisations mission-critical operations.

As the Team Manager, Platforms, you will lead a team of technical experts to design, implement, and maintain the physical and virtual infrastructure that powers our business. Your role will involve managing data center facilities, optimizing server and storage environments, and ensuring system access for all users.

You will play a pivotal role in disaster recovery planning, capacity management, and the integration of new technologies to enhance our infrastructure. Additionally, you will ensure that our data centers meet the highest standards of security, compliance, and efficiency, while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data center management, platform infrastructure, and cloud services. You should possess strong leadership and project management skills, with a proven ability to deliver robust infrastructure solutions that align with business objectives.

Main duties of the job

Your primary responsibility will be to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of platform and infrastructure solutions across NHS sites. This includes overseeing the deployment of servers, storage systems, virtualisation platforms, and cloud services, ensuring alignment with NHS standards and industry best practices.

In addition to strategic planning, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of platform and infrastructure specialists. You will mentor team members, foster a culture of excellence, and promote professional development to enhance the capabilities and effectiveness of the team.

As Team Manager, Platforms, you will also be responsible for managing resources, budgets, and performance metrics to ensure the efficient and effective operation of platform and infrastructure services. Your leadership, strategic vision, and technical expertise will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to patients and communities within the NCA.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant master's degree or equivalent, or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Relevant high level subject matter qualification (e.g. MCSE) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Relevant Leadership Qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. (e.g. ILM/CMI/Degree)
  • Project Management Qualification (Prince2, SCRUM, etc)
  • ITIL Qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development


Desirable

  • Professional, managerial and leadership qualification or equivalent experience at senior management level.


Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in team management, work scheduling, performance reviews and strategic improvement.
  • Significant experience of supporting and implementing enterprise grade solutions (e.g. Cisco, Citrix, VMWare, Microsoft, Azure).
  • Knowledge of budgetary management.
  • Ability to author clear concise reports, letters, minutes, and documents using a good standard of English.
  • Record of performance management and delivery of projects, targets, policy implementation, change management.
  • Experience and knowledge of the technical and business requirements, specification, procurement and implementation of enterprise IT solutions.
  • Good knowledge of data protection GDPR/DSPT and other relevant legislation standards.
  • Able to identify and resolve complex issues and problems across a broad range of IT solutions to an advanced level.
  • Able to evaluate and define use of new IT solutions through research and development and build of test configurations.
  • Significant experience of delivering, supporting and troubleshooting complex multi-vendor technical infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of common alternative subject matter systems such as Unix, Linux, OS X.


Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS /experience working within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in contributing to large, strategic technical transformation projects in a complex IT environment.
  • Demonstrable and practical experience at a senior level, in public or private sector, of delivering transformational change to business technologies and processes, to deliver cost savings and service improvements for customers.
