EPUT is looking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor who will provide consistent, high quality Medical input support to the Peter Bruff, Assessment Unit team in Colchester. The service provides 17 bedded mixed gender unit caters to patients from North East Essex and Mid Essex who require information admission.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have shared responsibility for the clinical care of those patients referred to the team and will be expected to work closely with the consultant and team manager to ensure the provision of an effective service. Patients attend gatekeeping assessment from home treatment team and if the assessment identifies that patient needs an informal hospital admission they are admitted to Peter Bruff assessment unit.

You should be eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983. You will also need to provide evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in psychiatry at time of application and likelihood of achieving CT2 competences in psychiatry by the start date of the post.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Attend Ward reviews every day

Attend MDT meeting every day

Carry out Ward review when one of the Consultants is away

Admitting patients during working hours

Attending to urgent clinical issues for patients on the ward

Dictate and check Discharge summaries for patients

Administrative work related to these activities

Support Trainee Doctors

Work with Multidisciplinary team

Attend the weekly regular supervision with the consultant

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification


Desirable

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment. and Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983.


Skills

Essential

  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job and specialty
  • Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job
