The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory (Lead laboratory for the East GLH) is pleased to be recruiting a Senior Genetic Technologist - Training Officer within the Technical Team / wet lab.

You will be reporting to the Technical Training Manager, and working together with the other Technical Managers and Team Leads to ensure Training & Competency compliance within the wet lab.

Other responsibilities include:

Performing & troubleshooting highly specialist Genomic assays or sample preparation.

Line managing a team of technical staff.

Technical experience, at a band 5 or above, within a UKAS accredited clinical diagnostic laboratory is essential.

Professional registration (IBMS/HCPC/AHCS) and experience mentoring staff is highly desirable.

The Laboratory is part of the East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub. This is one of seven Genomic Hubs established to provide the National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England, led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester. Currently working hours are between the laboratory opening hours of 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday, however these may change to be 8am-8pm Monday - Friday and some Weekend working so flexibility is desirable.

Main duties of the job

1. Act as the accountable Lead for technical training and competency compliance in the laboratory.2. Line managing a group of staff within the technical team, including any placement students.3. Manages and coordinates technical training and competency tracking, together with the Technical Training Manager and other Technical Team Leads.4. Works with the Technical Training Manager to advise on staff development opportunities and source funding.5. Mentors and supports staff undergoing registration portfolios.6. Computer manipulation and analysis of data for diagnostic tests.7. Testing cultured cells and DNA/RNA samples using a wide range of specialist genetic techniques and equipment, ensuring timely delivery of results.8. Maintains or works towards attaining AHCS or HCPC registration.

Training Officer duties will include supervision and mentoring of trainee staff. You will be an important part of the management team for technical staff and resources.
