South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking for two dynamic, forward thinking, enthusiastic, full time, substantive Consultant Psychiatrists to lead a Community Mental health team in the London Borough of Lewisham.
If you are looking for an exciting frontline role, within an established community mental health team, with opportunities to work closely with Primary care partners and lead on further service development and incorporating quality improvement methodology to evaluate changes, then this is the ideal post for you.
You will be providing input for the Primary Care Mental Health Team and the Community Mental Health Team in Lewisham's Neighbourhood 1 (N1).
You will be supported by a range of MDT staff including another 10 PA full time substantive consultant (being recruited), a GP trainee and a Higher Trainee for who you will be named clinical supervisor.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the consultant are to provide psychiatry consultant leadership and to act as Approved Clinician to the two Neighbourhood Teams - the Primary Care Mental Health Team and the Community Mental Health Team, and to support the Clinical Service Lead.
Close liaison with primary care will be a key part of the role. You will need to work directly with GPs and will need to attend regular meetings with local practices to improve the primary / secondary care interface and enhance the ability of medical colleagues working in primary care (Lead consultant in neighbourhood to take on this role)

Job responsibilities
To provide enthusiastic, and flexible, joint clinical leadership and consultant input into the team, alongside the Clinical Service Lead
- To take consultant responsibility for your sector of the Neighbourhood Community Mental Health team, acting as Approved Clinician and assessing or supervising assessment and management of patients and devising or helping to devise appropriate treatment plans and medication regimes, providing prompt medical response, and advising and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team
- To provide consultant input into the Primary Care Mental Health Team, using your expertise to provide advice, liaising closely with GPs and other stakeholders, and providing assessment of complex presentations and creating appropriate management plans
- To offer expert risk assessment and management skills in complex care of people with severe mental illness
- To ensure excellence in the delivery of evidence-based treatments
- To act as a source of support, advice and information to current or prospective patients and their carers, referrers, team members and other professionals

Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry OR within six months
- Approved clinician status and under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Qualifications

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines). Experience in relevant specialties such as in patient, old age psychiatry, liaison psychiatry, home treatment or addictions
