The successfully candidate will be part of the Paediatric Epilepsy multi-disciplinary team using specific skills to contribute to the care and understanding of the YoungPeople, their families, and carers.They will ensure the clinic environment is Young People friendly, stimulating and work closely with Young People with Epilepsy, conducting relevant workshops in the community.
A critical function of the role is to support the wider hospital youth service and ensure Young People with Epilepsy are able to engage in activities and sessions to ensure the best experience for young people.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve working alongside Young People, using informal or formal assessment to establish the needs of the patient group, by forming a good working relationship with the Paediatric Epilepsy team to provide a thorough andeffective service, meeting the holistic needs of the Young Person and their families.The successful candidate will be required to complete regular data collection fromsurveys to monitor the effectiveness of the Youth Worker role to improve theoverall health and experience of care for the Young People and their families.These results will be used to establish an appropriate response to support theseyoung people throughout the service.The Youth support worker will encourage and supervise the interaction of YoungPeople with activities, with particular emphasis on group work and usemotivational approaches, where appropriate. Working with Young People, they will prepare them for specific activities and treatment plans. Ensuring that links withexternal agencies or units where Young People may be cared for are forged.Supervision of unqualified staff such as youth work, play specialist students andvolunteers is a integral part of the role.The role will be required to travel to multiple locations as part of the work.
