The post holder is responsible for the management of the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) suite and the co-ordination and delivery of ECT service, ensuring it meets accepted quality and safety standards in accordance with national and local guidelines. This will include working with all disciplines involved with ECT across the Trust and with external organizations.
To ensure compliance by self and staff of the Trust's Standing Orders, Standing Financial instructions, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, including taking all reasonable steps to manage and promote a healthy working and anti-discrimination environment.
Main duties of the job
Provide leadership and expert clinical knowledge to ECT nurses on the development, organization, and evaluation of ECT Services within the Trust.
Act as an advisor on ECT and delivery of service both within the Trust and to external groups e.g. NALNECT and SIG groups.
Have operational responsibility for the ECT Department at Carol Foster Suite, ensuring the smooth running of the department with a high level of integration with other services and organisations when needed.
Treat the department as one part of the continuum of care and facilitate opportunities for patients to benefit from whilst maintaining and improving practice standards in ECT.
Maintain and develop close links with other professionals both internal and external to the Trust, consulting with other external departments to co-ordinate joint working in specific cases - i.e. the co-ordination of off-site treatment in the operating theatre in an acute Trust.
Be clinically responsible for the coordination and implementation of effective nursing care within all ECT departments. He/she will liaise with other professionals and with those providing support services

To undertake a yearly review of policies and procedures with the ECT team, ensuring any changes reflect current standards from ECTAS and Oxleas Trust.
To mentor, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff including nursing students, escorting staff and medical trainees.
To be responsible for the recruitment, deployment and management of staff within the ECT department.
To have an advanced understanding of the principles regarding informed consent and capacity, and its application to individual patient circumstances and clinical presentation.
To have knowledge of Mental Capacity Act within the wider context of Mental Health Care and to understand its use in relation to ECT.
To ensure that all aspects of Mental Health Act Legislation (with specific regards to consent to treatment issues) are adhered to in the administration of ECT to patients.
To be lead practitioner working to identify local and national ECT issues and work on delivering the clinical governance agendas as determined by the organizations.
To enhance the competences of the staff through an active and innovative ECT based training program.
To maintain the current internal audit mechanism UNDER THE STANDARDS OF ECTAS and Trust Policies.
Work collaboratively with staff involved in ECT administration and work to standardize competencies, practice, documentation, and any other issues identified by the ECT Lead Nurse and Manager.
To ensure that care is delivered using evidence-based practice
