There is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 midwife, who has special interest in working with vulnerable women and their families, to join a well-established team of midwives.The Gateway Team of midwives provide continuity of care to vulnerable pregnant women including teenagers, women with learning disabilities, victims of domestic abuse, substance abusers, women experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues, and women with complex safeguarding issues.You will provide antenatal and postnatal care in community clinics and women's homes with opportunities to provide intrapartum care in line with Better births, to a caseload of vulnerable women. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate midwife who wishes to extend their midwifery skills in this field. You must have excellent communication and time management skills and be a proactive team player. It's vital that you have a special interest in caring for vulnerable women and have a good understanding of maternity safeguarding.

Main duties of the job

To provide safe and effective midwifery care to vulnerable women whilst working in partnership within a multidisciplinary team. This team includes the Specialist Safeguarding Midwife, Specialist Midwife for Perinatal Mental Health, Sepcialist Midwife for Substance Misuse, Social Services, The Perinatal Mental Health Team, Obstetric and Psychiatric Consultants, Health Visitors, Family Nurses, Neonatal Consultants and Neonatal Nurses. To ensure comprehensive, compassionate and enhanced midwifery care to vulnerable clients while providing the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care, in alongside the multidisciplinary team.

This is an opportunity to work within a team supporting vulnerable pregnant women. The team work at The Royal London Hospital , in community settings, at local children's centre's and also visit their homes. The Gateway Team support vulnerable women in the antenatal and postnatal period who are experiencing or have experienced the following: Moderate to Severe Mental Health Issues, Domestic Abuse , Teenage Pregnancies, Learning Disabilities, Asylum Seekers, Substance Misuse, FGM, Complex Safeguarding Issues etc.

Essential

  • Registered Midwife - eligible to practice
  • (minimum 1 year experience)


Desirable

  • Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
  • Examination of the newborn

  • Experience/knowledge of safeguarding issues in maternity/children's setting

  • Experience/special interest in working with vulnerable pregnant women
