The post holder will oversee a team at Whipps Cross Hospital and Newham. They will have the opportunity to work alongside different specialties including, Obstetric department, Urology department, Maternity department and attend MDT's.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy for acute and chronic pelvic health patients as an autonomous practitioner, with access to advice and support from colleagues if required. The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload providing thorough clinical assessment, diagnosis, planning treatment and appropriate discharge from the service adapting practice to suit the needs of the patient. Their practice will include advanced physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients within the specialty who may have complex, chronic pain presentations.

Experience

Essential

  • Graduate experience as a senior physiotherapist in relevant MSK outpatient, orthopedic and rheumatology clinical environments
  • Experience in a women's and men's health service
  • Experience of working with Maternity/Obstetric/Urology patients
  • Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HPC recommendations
  • Experience of working as part of a team uni-professional and multi- professional team
  • Advice, supervision, appraisal, training and support to more junior staff, support staff and students
  • Experience of audit/research
  • Experience with Chronic pain patients


Desirable

  • Appropriate post registration NHS experience
  • Experience of sole working as part of an out of hours orthopedic weekend service


Skills

Essential

  • Good knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy in the relevant setting E.G. MSK/pain/maternity/obstretic/urology
  • Specialist MSK skills in OPD/Maternity/Obstretic/Urology areas
  • Understanding and application of risk management
  • Understand legal responsibilities of the profession and the associated code of ethics
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and more junior staffs workload and supervise support staff in this field
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities and support other staff in this field
  • Demonstrate understanding and previous participation in activity to support the clinical governance agenda
  • In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group
  • Be able to demonstrate flexibility and reliability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills


Knowledge & qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Member of the Health Professions Council


Desirable

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Member of special interest group specializing in Women's and Men's health

  • Supervisory & appraisal skills of other staff including junior staff / support staff / students
  • Ability to pass on knowledge and deliver training both internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups
  • Committed to lifelong and self-directed learning
  • After induction, to be able to actively participate as an appraiser to the Trust IPR system
  • Committed to personal and team development
  • Ability to gain patient's trust and engender confidence & feeling of safety in patients about their care
  • Ability to present information both orally and written in a clear and logical manner
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
  • Fully IT literate with IM& T skills to use a range of applications to support workload
  • Ability to cope with working in a busy or stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients/carers
