Due to developments within the paediatric service, we have a new opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the orthopaedic paediatric team.

The Occupational Therapy service for paediatric orthopaedics currently consists of a 0.4 band 6, focusing on pre-assessment intervention within elective orthopaedics and post-op assessment and treatment of both elective and trauma patients.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting part-time opportunity for a proactive and driven Band 7 to enhance our current provision with a particular focus on promoting and developing the OT role within orthopaedic paediatrics, identifying areas for future growth and implementing innovative service improvements.

We would welcome an experienced paediatric occupational therapist with a keen eye for quality improvement and evidence-based care. You will need to have a flexible approach, be resourceful and enthusiastic in demonstrating the impact and added value that Occupational Therapy brings to the pathways. Excellent time management, resilience and prioritisation skills are essential for delivery of an efficient and effective service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy Degree or equivalent Qualification
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of post graduate study or attendance at relevant post graduate courses


Desirable

  • Formal post graduate studies or MSc in related area of practice
  • Membership to relevant clinical specialist interest groups, support groups and committees
  • Membership of British Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Post graduate training in equipment provision.


Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Substantial post graduate clinical experience in paediatric occupational therapy, specialising in neurological and orthopaedic conditions, in acute, outpatient and community settings.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of typical and atypical child development and implications for occupational performance.
  • Experience of assessing for, providing, adjusting and advising on equipment for daily living including: specialist seating, 24 hour postural management equipment, wheelchairs, manual handling equipment and bathing / showering equipment.
  • Specialist knowledge of a range of paediatric assessment and outcome measure tools
  • Previous experience of service development, quality improvement projects and strategic planning for unit/Trust


Desirable

  • Established knowledge of national policies and procedures.


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent clinical skills in understanding orthopaedic paediatric conditions & the therapeutic interventions indicated to support occupational engagement
  • Drive and enthusiasm for clinical excellence using EBP and clinical networks


Desirable

  • Ability to develop new assessment and treatment techniques to support functional skills in children with complex presentations.
