Salary: �47,342-�50,056 per annum

Main duties of the job

In particular, the LSMS will lead on:

The effective day-to-day operation of the security, portering and switchboard staff, waste management, traffic control, car park operations, accommodation and linen which impact across the whole Trust.

The proactive and reactive operational security management of property/asset protection as well as dealing with violence and aggression against staff, patients and visitors ensuring that preventative control measures are put in place.

The development of Trust and Departmental operational security policies and guidelines, through the interpretation of complex legislation, national guidance and confidential inquiry reports.

Maintaining positive working relationships with police and criminal justice services.

The planning, development and introduction of change for the Security Services Department as Trust and service needs require.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Acting as a point of contact for the Technical Services Department in a customer facing role to promote the role of the Security Department across the Trust.

Providing general security advice, information and guidance to all grades of staff and Trust clients, to gain their agreement and co-operation to enable staff to undertake their work efficiently and effectively.

To assist with security related risk assessments in all areas of the Trust to identify security weakness and formulate action plans to improve security, and be an integral part of the risk management strategy working closely with the Health and Safety Officer, Estates Fire Adviser, Head of Governance and the Risk Management Team to ensure a consistent approach to risk management:

To assist with interpretation of statutory legislation and advise on the required standards necessaryto ensure compliance within the Trust.

To undertake:

Routine and advanced sickness management to include reviews and the setting of targets.

Performance Development Reviews.

General counselling, arranging support where necessary.

To ensure that security, portering and switchboard staff completes their duties in accordance with Trust Operational Procedures and monitor performance. Formulate action plans where improvements are necessary.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant experience of delivery practical skills training to groups
  • Extensive experience of security and personal safety risk assessment
  • Extension knowledge and experience in security and personal safety theory and practice, achieved through experience in an appropriate setting and maintained through research into current best practice and future developments
  • Experience of formal investigation and report writing within the boundaries of confidentiality
  • Minimum of five years experience in related areas of security management
  • Minimum of two years management experience in a managing large staff groups.
  • Technical knowledge in relation to security, portering and switchboard services.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements governing the provision of security within the NHS.


Desirable

  • Experience of working in the NHS and good understanding of its processes


Qualification and Professional Training

Essential

  • Degree in a related subject or Equivalent experience gained in the subject
  • Accredited Security Management Specialist, minimum of foundation level training for LSMS
  • Recognised training/Teaching qualification or willingness to gain
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and acquiring new skills/knowledge


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Understanding of the legal and court system in relation to criminal prosecutions and civil actions.
  • Technical knowledge of security and personal protection equipment and systems.
  • Experience of analyzing complex information and presenting to a wide range of audiences.
  • Competent in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques
  • Ability to work with people in a distressed and vulnerable state to obtain accurate factual and relevant information.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with staff in other specialist areas, departments and care groups
  • Ability to analyse complex factual and technical information, make recommendations and take appropriate actions.
  • Numerical skills including the ability to produce and interpret incident statistics
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office and confidence to use other software applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work within set timescales and deadlines.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Interviewing skills or willingness to gain.

  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements governing the provision of Security within the NHS.
