The Paediatric & Cheyne Child Development (CCD) Psychology Service is a uniquely placed CNWL service, commissioned by 4 acute Trusts across Northwest London and as such benefits from being part of both CNWL's large psychology workforce and also the paediatric multidisciplinary workforces at each acute Trust-Chelsea & Westminster, Imperial, London Northwest & Hillingdon. The service specialises in the provision of highly skilled psychological assessment and intervention to children, young people & their families under the care of paediatric, neonatal and neurodevelopmental multidisciplinary teams. We are looking for an innovative and highly experienced consultant clinical psychologist tobecome the head of this service.

You will be responsible forleading & managing the psychology teams within the service, as well as maintaining a clinical role at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.There are 26 clinical psychologists working within the service,ranging in experience from undergraduate psychology students to experienced consultant clinical psychologists, who lead each hospital site team.

The post holder would be a member of the senior leadership team for CNWL CAMHS & Eating Disorders Directorate, as well asone of the child leads atthe trust wide psychology senior leadership team and as such, would be involved in the development and strengthening of psychological services with the Trust as a whole.

Main duties of the job

  • As Professional Lead Psychologist for Paediatric & CCD Psychology in CNWL London Boroughs, provide strategic & transformational clinical leadership and direction in the continual development and provision of excellence in psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention throughout the CNWL Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service.
  • To be professionally & managerially responsible for the delivery of psychological services and professional practice across the CNWL Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service, which is commissioned via SLA's with four northwest London acute hospital trusts, encompassing seven acute hospital sites.
  • To support Paediatric & CCDS psychologists to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, understanding & leading the process of change in services and implementation of innovation within systems. Working with a range of professionals, service users and carers to facilitate involvement in service planning, development and delivery
  • To lead the professional delivery of psychology in Paediatric & CCD Psychology services that prioritises overcoming health and social inequalities, challenges discrimination and values diversity in service design and provision and in the workforce.


About us

There are tertiary & secondary multidisciplinary paediatric services within the 4 acute Trusts and the former have paediatric psychology embedded in the teams, while the latter are covered by the general paediatric psychology service. There is both inpatient & outpatient psychology provision , including neonatal & paediatric intensive care. At Chelsea & Westminster Trust there is also the Cheyne Child Development psychology service, which provides assessment & interventions to children & young people with neurodevelopmental and/or learning difficulties living within the 3 boroughs local to the hospital.

It is an exciting time to join Paediatrics within Northwest London, as the West London Children's Hospital becomes established over the next year. This is coming together of paediatric & child development multidisciplinary services at Chelsea & Westminster and Imperial Trusts to ensure more comprehensive and integrated care for patients.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesManagement
  • To provide organizational, managerial & professional leadership to the paediatric & CCD psychology services at following four acute Trusts: Chelsea & Westminster, Imperial, London Northwest & Hillingdon Hospitals.
  • To line manage & clinically supervise the consultant clinical psychologists/team leads for the services at each acute Trust and other clinical psychologists within the services if required.
  • To advise on & ensure regular reviews of the SLAs with the acute Trusts, developing & managing the relationships with multiple strategic partners, including education & other external agencies.
  • To advise on and participate in the management of Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service staff, including recruitment, career development, appraisal and disciplinary, grievance and professional practice matters.

Leadership
  • Providing clinical leadership for the Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service, including clinical governance leadership.
  • To participate fully in service and divisional senior management structures.
  • To contribute to long-term planning for the Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service and lead on operational plans for service delivery.
  • To advise and set standards for the implementation and innovation of psychological interventions in Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service.
  • Advise the Trust on implementing Government policies and professional guidelines within the Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service
  • To support Paediatric and CCD Psychology Service staff to contribute to the leadership and development of services
  • To advise on appropriate systems for the clinical and professional supervision of qualified and unqualified psychologists across the Paediatric & CCD Psychology Service .


Person Specification Training and Qualificiations Essential
  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (as accredited by (or equivalent) to the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, including training relevant to the specialisms of Paediatric and/or Child Development psychology.
  • Registration with HCPC as a practitioner psychologist, domain of clinical / counselling psychology
  • Formal training in the supervision of applied psychologists
Desirable
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice and/or psychotherapy qualification leading to a recognised accreditation.
  • Formal leadership training
Experience Essential
  • Substantial assessed post qualification experience working as a qualified psychologist including experience as a Consultant Psychologist within the designated specialty where the post is located
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
  • Substantial experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Broad experience of a range of assessment and treatment models relevant to working with this client group, and in developing complex clinical formulations
Desirable
  • Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified psychologists
  • Experience of facilitating and supervising research and audit activities
