This post will be primarily based on the Eagleton ward, which is a 19 bedded male acute ward, and the post holder will also be part of the Occupational Therapy department working with adult acute inpatients across Meadowbrook.

You will be working with adult inpatients who may have complex psychological and/or physical needs, and therefore relevant experience will be important.

The work will include assessment of mental state and overall function through observations of participation in both group and individual ward based therapeutic activities, interviews, and more in depth functional assessments when required.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and may be required to liaise with various discharge agencies.

The post will entail the supervision of more junior staff and students.

You will also be involved in service development. You will receive regular supervision and annual appraisal.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage complex needs of a male acute ward caseload using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and record all interventions.
  • To contribute to a rapid multi disciplinary assessment of mental state and function.
  • To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on fieldwork placement.
  • To provide leadership for junior and support staff as delegated by supervisor.
  • To abide by the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the College of Occupational Therapy Professional Standards for OT Practice.
  • To develop skills and knowledge through participation in a Professional Development planning to meet the competency framework
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the O.T. services with the designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined forums

Professional qualification

Essential

  • Degree or diploma in occupational therapy
  • HCPC registration


Desirable

  • Current Fieldwork Educator qualification within 12 months of appointment (APPLE)


Continuing professional development

Essential

  • Current Fieldwork Educator qualification within 12 months of appointment (APPLE)


Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration training/learning relevant to mental health


Experience
