We are seeking to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within the Long Covid service, up to 32 hours per week.

As well as undertaking the assessment and treatment of patients in this clinical area, the successful candidate will have opportunity to assist in the development of the OT role within the existing Long Covid services.

The post holder will independently assess and treat routine and complex patients with a diagnosis of long covid.

The post holder will work alongside the wider Long Covid MDT members, supporting assessment and triage of appropriate patients for the service. They will be required to hold their own caseload as well as signposting and referring some appropriate patients to other community services.

The post holder will be expected to have specialist knowledge around the assessment and treatment of long covid patients. They will act as a source of support and advise to teams who do not specialise in this condition but are completing intervention to people with the diagnosis.

They will provide therapeutic input to patients in varied settings encompassing out-patient appointments, in a patient's own home and via remote working systems.

The post will cover the whole of North Cumbria and the staff member will be required to work across acute and community hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

They will use evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Provide leadership and supervision for occupational therapists and support staff within the team, regularly supervising occupational therapy students on practice placements as appropriate.

The post holder will be expected to lead, with support of the Deputy Head Occupational Therapist, on service development of the OT role within the long covid service pathway.

The service is part of a strong Occupational Therapy network, with links to the teams at the Cumberland Infirmary, West Cumberland Hospital as well as the wider health and social care settings across North Cumbria. This provides many professional development opportunities and there is a strong focus on CPD within the team. You will have access to high quality, regular clinical supervision, and we offer an excellent induction, ongoing professional support and a highly rewarding job to the successful applicant.
