Come on board as a Resident Optometrist, where you will start your journey into the fascinating world of Ophthalmology.

Resident Optometrists work across a broad range of hospital Optometry and Ophthalmology Clinics. You will be introduced to aspects of clinical teaching, audit, research and management. Experience in hospital Optometry is not necessary. You will hold a qualified GOC registration.

As Resident Optometrist, you will be supported to complete additional professional training such as College certificates in medical retina, glaucoma and independent prescribing.

Main duties of the job

Deliver a range of optometry clinical services to the highest standards.

Undertake clinical audit, research and administrative tasks.

Provide hospital Optometry Clinical Services using sound theoretical and practical knowledge.

Optometry services include low vision, specialist refraction and paediatric refraction services.

Perform precise clinical techniques such as pachymetry, contact tonometry, slip-lamp examination, visual fields and imaging tests.

Work closely with Consultant Ophthalmologists to provide specialist care and in close association with all Optometrists, Medical, Orthoptic, Nursing and Administrative staff to ensure a high standard care for all patients.

About Us

We are a large, dynamic, Ophthalmology Department with 16 Consultant Ophthalmologists. 16 Optometrists make up our team including Resident, Bank, Specialist and Advanced Clinical Optometrists, each with different roles and responsibilities. As one of our Resident Optometrists, you will be a key member of the team and well supported to develop your own clinical interests and skills.

• B.Sc. (Hons) Optometry degree
• College of Optometrists' Scheme for Registration complete
• General Optical Council registration

Desirable

• Member of College of Optometrists

Experience

• Experience managing a range of ophthalmic conditions
• Experience working with adult and paediatric patients
• Experience working as part of a team

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of visual assessment and investigation techniques used in hospital services
• Knowledge of the different approaches to refractive management in children
• Knowledge of essential aspects of low vision assessment and rehabilitation
• Broad understanding of the management of conditions such as macular disease, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy within hospital services

Desirable
