The Oxford Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre (OHTC) is a designated comprehensive care centre. It provides diagnostic and treatment facilities and is one of the largest such centres for haemophilia in the UK. Patients are also referred to the centre for investigation of possible bleeding or thrombotic disorders.
The post is to be part of a small research team within this centre managing and supporting research working with the wider clinical team as well as supporting clotting studies across the wider trust.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will utilise knowledge and clinical judgement to assess patients and assist with the delivery of treatments. You will work with the existing research team to raise the profile of clinical studies and their accessibility to patients.
The post holder will help setup studies, recruit patients, organise and manage their participation in studies including treatment, blood taking and other data collection including observations and questionnaires. It will also involve phone contact with patients, data entry and query resolution.
You will also be responsible for supporting these studies alongside the wider research team. A successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and show an interest in managing research studies in clinical practice. You will need to demonstrate good communication skills and an ability to manage time and workload.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
General
- Completes mandatory Trust and OHTC training.
- To follow agreed protocols and policies, seeking advice where appropriate from the research team and the trial coordinating centre.
- To have the capacity to work unsupervised, on own initiative and set own work priorities.
- Demonstrate a professional approach to work and act as a professional and responsible team member.
- To oversee and manage sudy stock levels.
- Work alongside research nurses in the provision of a high standard of nursing care and develop working relationships with other multidisciplinary teams and areas of the Trust involved in clinical research activity.
- Use effective prioritisation, problems solving and delegation skills to manage time effectively.
- Develop and maintain effective communications to foster good working relationships with all key stakeholders, internal and external contacts
- Plan and coordinate the day-to-day work in collaboration with the senior clinical staff
- Assist with the day-to-day smooth running of the OHTC research office.
- To take personal responsibility for promoting a safe environment and safe patient care by identifying areas of risk and following the incident, serious incidents and near misses reporting policy and procedure.
Research
- To have an understanding that all research must be conducted according to ICH-GCP, the EU Directive on Good Clinical Practice and the Research Governance Guidelines.
- Understand the importance of documentation of study data according to ICH GCP guidelines.
- Be involved in the feasibility review of upcoming studies.
- Develop critical appraisal skills in evaluating research protocols.
- Coordinate non-complex studies under the supervision and support of senior colleagues.
- Assist in the identification of patients eligible to enter studies.
- Ensure clinic appointments/tests required for patients involved in studies are carried out according to the schedule in the protocol.
- Collect and process biological samples according to study protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure all results are obtained and reviewed by the trial Doctor.
- Process, package, and ship samples according to specific study protocols, training will be given as necessary.
- Assist in the care and follow up of study patients according to the schedule set out in the study protocol.
- Assist with clinical observations as required by study protocol.
- Create and maintain study site files.
- Systematically documents patient information in the medical notes.
- Ensure study case report forms and eCRFs are completed within appropriate time lines and answer queries as necessary.
- When appropriate work autonomously obtaining patient informed consent to participate in a study, provide information, education, and support to patients on studies.
- Delegate and refer patients to other research team members when risks and needs are beyond own competence and scope of practice.
