Job Title: Highly Specialist Respiratory and sleep clinical scientist

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week (4 day week Monday - Friday)

Perm/Fixed Term: Permanent

Salary: �43,742-�50,056 per annum

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be expected to an independent autonomous clinical scientist.

They will be expected to demonstrate an advanced level of experience across respiratory and sleep science and undertake advanced clinical physiology investigations.

They are expected to provide leadership, training and education across clinical areas of sleep and respiratory services, enabling staff to develop the clinical skills and competencies required delivering a high-quality service responsive to changing needs.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Demonstrate specialist skills, knowledge and expertise in clinical practice in Respiratory and Sleep Sciences e.g., CPET, Oxygen Therapy and Pulmonary Function Testing.

Analyse, interpret and report on the results of a range of investigations.

To be proficient at performing respiratory and sleep physiology tests independently to departmental standards.

Attend and participate in local and national meetings related to Respiratory and Sleep Sciences.

Identify the diagnostic and therapeutic requirements of specialist clinical departments and clinical colleagues, this may require attending multidisciplinary team meetings.

To interpret complex data to ascertain and identify any pathological or incidental findings observable. Consider and report diagnoses as appropriate.

To communicate test results, technical information, and exchange specialist information with colleagues from your own and other disciplines.

Assist in the day to day running of the department ensuring

Support the Clinical service manager in achieving long-term objectives of the department and its strategic direction including devising and revising COPs and guidelines as needed.

Qualification and Professional Traing

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology Respiratory or equivalent
  • Master level degree or equivalent qualification in Healthcare Science
  • ARTP Award (Part 1, Part 2, Associate or Practitioner examinations


Desirable

  • HCPC registered
  • Intermediate Life Support
  • Mary Seacole NHS Leadership Award or equivalent
  • DClinSci or PhD


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience post qualification
  • Experience in a formal leadership role within an NHS Hospital Trust
  • Experience as an independent practitioner across the range of routine and specialised respiratory and sleep investigations
  • Evidence of clinical research and audit
  • Developing and implementing training packages
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams


Desirable

  • Experience of Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) accreditation process
  • Experience with governance, QA and/or complaint management
  • Experience of planning and developing specialist services including contributing toward local and national policies
