An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual passionate about cancer services to join UHL's Cancer Centre team as the Macmillan Deputy Lead Cancer Nurse

In the role you will deputise for the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse specialising in the field of cancer care, leading, influencing, developing and expanding cancer services throughout the Trust and strategically influencing the direction of cancer nursing.

You must be able to demonstrate commitment and drive, along with excellent communication skills. Being a flexible and adaptable compassionate leader is also essential to the role as is being a team player.

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively with a variety of health care professionals from primary and secondary care settings, Integrated Care System, NHS England, EMCA, patients, their representatives and external agenciesto ensure the delivery of cancer services within the Trust are consistent with both national and local strategy, to include relevant governance, quality and operational frameworks.

Responsible for the development of a high quality, effective and efficient service to patients and healthcare professionals through leadership and supervision, robust clinical governance and education.

Support the East Midlands Cancer Alliance transformational projects to support the delivery of the Personalised Care agenda, along with other initiatives alongside the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse.

Job responsibilities

To deputise for the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse

Act as a role model by providing advice and support, specialist skills and knowledge, effective communication, vision and innovative practices based on evidence based care

To liaise closely with the East Midlands Cancer Alliance and ICS to implement national cancer strategies in collaboration with the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse

Support the transformational delivery of the Personalised Care agenda as detailed in the NHS 10 Year Plan.

Strengthening and developing collaborative pathways, improving coordination of appropriate care across health professionals and organisations.

Ensure the cancer workforce has the right skills, training and behaviours, as well as the right support, to confidently deliver high quality and compassionate care that reflects the challenges faced in current cancer care.

Actively promote diversity and the implementation of innovative practices to meet the needs of culturally diverse populations

Support patient and public involvement within the Cancer Services by encouraging and promoting the involvement of users in planning, monitoring and developing services.

To support transformational work within Cancer Nursing and Clinical teams

Lead on the National Cancer Patent Experience Survey (NCPES), coordinating and analysing results and presenting at relevant committees and forums

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse/1st degree registered with NMC
• Advanced Communication Skills
• Relevant Nursing Degree
• Willing to work towards Master's qualification

Desirable

• Leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

• Extensive clinical experience in cancer care
• Evidence of innovative practice developments and significant achievements gained
• Experience in the delivery of services for Cancer patients

Desirable

• Experience of working with other sectors of the NHS e.g.- ICS

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

• Proven record to initiate and manage service development
• Proven ability to manage and deliver complex and changing workload, which will include the need to resolve conflicting priorities within tight timescales
