This exciting post bridges both primary and secondary care rotations, which includes a rotation across The Hillingdon Hospital site and Community Paediatric setting. The post holder will gain experience within a wide range of clinical settings, including The Stroke Unit, community paediatrics, neuro rehabilitation, Frailty, Older Adults, Medicine and Surgery, ITU, elective and trauma orthopaedics.

Within Hillingdon Hospital, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services are fully integrated, providing an exciting, friendly and supportive environment in which staff are encouraged to develop their full potential. Personal and professional development is a high priority and underpinned by Trust OTs learning and development strategies and OT clinical networks, which supports life-long learning. All settings offer undergraduate clinical placements to students from across London and surrounding areas. We recognise thatband5's bring innovative and dynamism to our clinical teams. There will be opportunities to supervise staff, be an educator and have access to both internal and external training.

Your role at Hillingdon Hospital will involve assessing patients' functional abilities and providing appropriate interventions within an acute hospital setting to maximise independence and promote the regaining of functional abilities. We offer undergraduate clinical placement, which you will have the opportunity to be involved in, as well as working with support staff. The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust operates a physical rotation for Band 5 Occupational Therapists.

Rotations cover the following specialities:

  • Children's Integrated Therapies Service (CITS)
  • Acute Medicine & Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Acute & Rehab of Older Adults
  • The Stroke Unit and Neuro rehab

Job responsibilities

The post holder may work across the Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites, as both are part of the same trust or for rotation out to our community partners CNWL.

The rotation pathways may be pre-set at appointment, and can be subject to change according to service need.

Job Summary
  • To provide effective client centred occupational therapy service to patients who may have complex needs in your current area of rotationin accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
  • To devise, implement and evaluate individual treatment and intervention
  • To work effectively and efficiently on an individual and team level within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain clear communication networks with staff, patients and carers
  • To build partnerships with and network with colleagues across health, social care and education with voluntary and statutory agencies, and work in partnership with relevant community resources
  • Participate in the inpatient physio and OT weekend working rota (where applicable).

    Person Spec

    Essential

    • Diploma, Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
    • Current HCPC registration
    • Member of BAOT.
    • Knowledge and application of the OT process in rotational settings, with an awareness of relevant models of practice.
    • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development Portfolio
    • Evidence of understanding of the consequences on ADL function and wellbeing as a result of short or long term changes in physical or mental health.
    • Demonstrate understanding of the role of OT within the multidisciplinary team.
    • Knowledge of adaptive and other specialist equipment
    • Effective fluent written and oral communication skills in English.
    • Computer Literate
    • Able to plan, deliver and evaluate individual OT programmes.
    • Ability to appropriately manage a clinical caseload prioritising as required


    Desirable

    • Additional postgraduate qualification or honours degree.
    • Member of College of OT Specialist Section
    • Voluntary work in a relevant setting
    • Understanding of dynamics and complexities of the NHS environment.
    • Previous experience of being involved with service development initiatives.
    • Wider experience within the NHS.
    • Proficiency in the use of IT applications to support efficient work activity.
