An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Salford Older Adult Primary Care Team due to the current postholder retiring. We are a small, friendly specialist team providing psychological therapies and counselling to older people. This post offers an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) to work in a multidisciplinary team that is developing innovative ways of delivering interventions to this often disadvantaged client group. It will enable you to make a significant difference to older people experiencing mental health difficulties. Many of our clients may also have comorbid physical health, sensory or cognitive difficulties and require tailored, person-centred interventions based on their needs.

As the OT within the team, you'll work collaboratively with other team members, as well as liaison with wider community services, health, Social Care and the voluntary sector. It is a diverse role, where you'll provide specialist OT assessment and intervention to older people who are experiencing mental health difficulties. You will also be responsible for developing the OT role within the team, provide consultation and training, take a lead on appropriate service development projects and provide supervision to junior members of the team.

Main duties of the job

To be successful in this role, it's vital that you are a HCPC registered OT with a diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy. You should also have evidence of continuing professional development through relevant post-graduate, specialist training courses and substantial post qualification clinical experience of working with older adults. Plus, clinical experience in a range of settings including home and community. Experience of supervision and clinical leadership is also desirable in addition to training in psychological ways of working such as CBT or Mindfulness based approaches.

You'll need to be flexible, motivated and reliable with excellent planning and organisational skills. You should also have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and be willing to embrace new ways of working. It's also important that you can recognise people's right to privacy and dignity - treating every person with respect
