Job responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Liaise with appropriate professionals and to contribute to multi-disciplinary case discussions/planning meetings.
  • Develop and maintain safe and effective multi-agency communication, information sharing and pathways, to ensure smooth transition between the agencies and services in line with the Trusts Dual Diagnosis Policy.
  • Promote the use of effective interventions for Dual diagnosis across the Trust.
  • Maintain and further develop high standards of Dual Diagnosis service delivery through co-operative work with colleagues, through audit and supervision.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of Dual Diagnosis research and service development guidance.
  • Be responsible for developing and leading a specialist clinical consultation service for service users with severe substance misuse problems and co-morbid conditions (Dual Diagnosis).
  • Provide highly specialist advice on the assessment, treatment & management of clients with a Dual Diagnosis to appropriate colleagues across agencies -- in order to contribute to care planning.
  • Provide highly specialist direct assessments and interventions, to service users with a Dual Diagnosis.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the treatment and/or management of a client's dual problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy.
  • Have responsibility for assessing the service needs of clients with a Dual Diagnosis across the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, prioritising areas for development and leading the implementation plan. Specific key areas for development will be agreed (by the post holder and the Director of Mental Health and Learning Disabilities and the line manager) within the job plan.
  • Regularly participate in relevant areas of research & evaluation and undertake service evaluation as agreed with the Head of CMHS & LD-- and / or supervise the research of others.
  • Provide leadership to the team to ensure that high standards of practice are maintained and developed, in accordance with individual roles and responsibilities as well as the overall effectiveness of the team.
  • Ensure that all members of the treating teams have access to a specialist evidence- based framework for understanding and care of clients with a Dual Diagnosis, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of research and theory.
  • Take the lead, as a senior clinician, in the evaluation and monitoring of service provision for clients with a Dual Diagnosis, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit and ensuring incorporation of evidence-based frameworks for understanding and provision of high-quality care.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1.Post graduate level of training/experience.
  • 2.Registration with the relevant professional body such as the Health Professions Council or NMC


Desirable

  • Relevant specialist CPD qualification (Diploma/ Masters etc.)Management training/ qualificationClinical supervision training


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience in the field of Dual Diagnosis.Experience of work across service settings and agencies.Clinical and audit work within specialist area.Teaching/training with range of staff and other professions.Supervision experience with all grades of staff.Care co-ordination or equivalent role.


Desirable

  • Experience of Service Development/Project WorkConsultancy work in multi-professional settings.Service development/ project work.R& D work in specialist area.Experience managing Services

  • SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • 1. Knowledge of specialist therapeutic interventions with the client group, underpinned by comprehensive theoretical knowledge.
  • 2. Advanced assessment and formulation skills.
  • 3. Post graduate level knowledge of research design and data analysis
  • 4. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management, including complex child protection issues.
  • 5. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the relevant professional body.
  • 6. Change and project management techniques
