This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ultrasound team of a large and busy teaching hospital. The post holder will be working in a fast paced Ultrasound department alongside a team of Sonographers and Radiologists. You will be supporting the delivery of high quality patient care, to our patients at various sites across the trust.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be working within the Ultrasound team and will be required to work across the two main sites of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals which are the Leeds General Infirmary and St James'. There may also be a requirement to work at the peripheral sites based at Seacroft and Wharfedale.

We are a busy Teaching Hospital providing secondary and tertiary care. The post holder would required to support the obstetric work alongside acute in patient and out patient services. As a regional transplant centre we also have a commitment to support the pre and post renal and liver transplant service. We also have a dedicated Paediatric Ultrasound department. The work is fast paced, interesting and there are opportunities to develop and expand your skills.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will report directly to the Ultrasound Team Managers and will be expected to meet the following criteria

To provide a high quality diagnostic ultrasound service by performing unsupervised scanning sessions.

To independently formulate a comprehensive diagnostic report for ultrasound examinations, and to ensure that this is communicated to

the appropriate referring clinician.

To act as a source of expertise to clinicians/other hospital staff.

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

To maintain on-going professional development through attendance at clinical/scientific/multi-disciplinary meetings.

To be involved in clinical training programmes, mentoring and supervising of both Student Sonographers Specialist Registrar

Radiologists.

Skills & behaviours

Essential

  • Range of behaviours as set out in 'The Leeds Way'
  • Excellent communication Skills and experience of counselling skills e.g.breaking bad news.
  • High level dexterity and hand eye coordination.
  • Proficient IT skills.


Desirable

  • Evidence of experience in research relating to Ultrasound.
  • Evidence of participation in departmental audits.


Qualifications

Essential

  • To hold a Degree or equivalent in Healthcare Studies
  • To hold the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.
  • State registration with the HCPC or equivalent professional regulatory body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Evidence of up to date mandatory and priority training as set out by the Trust.


Desirable

  • Master's degree in Medical Ultrasound.
  • Certified to perform Nuchal Translucency Screening


Experience

Essential

  • To have experience of a range of Ultrasound techniques and procedures to include Obstetrics and General Medical Ultrasound.
  • Detailed knowledge of anatomy, pathologies, abnormalities and diseases/conditions.
  • Knowledge of local and national guidelines and protocols.
  • Must be able to demonstrate evidence of current practice of Ultrasound


Desirable

  • NHS experience


Other Criteria

Essential

  • Must be able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post(with reasonable adjustments if necessary) including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with trust Policy.
