This is an opportunity to join a ground-breaking team in SWLSTG Trust, delivering Structured Clinical Management (SCM). This is an evidence-based approach for working in a community setting with people with Complex Emotional Needs/ a diagnosis of personality disorder. You will receive training and ongoing supervision to ensure that you develop and maintain the necessary skills for working with this client group. Supervision will be provided by a Clinical Psychologist within the team. We are keen to receive applications from Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, and Clinical Associates in Psychology. You will need to have a distinct interest in working with this client group to get the most from this position. We will accept applications on a full-time and part-time (job share) basis.

Main duties of the job

You will hold dual team membership. You will be based in a Integrated Recovery Hub (IRH- a community care team), and line-managed in this setting. However, your clinical duties will fall under the SCM Team, where you will receive your clinical supervision. In the SCM team you will be part of a group of staff who are highly motivated to support clients with Complex Emotional Needs/ a diagnosis of personality disorder, and to do so compassionately and creatively. You will be involved in the assessment and treatment of clients, providing individual and group-based interventions within the SCM framework. You will hold your own caseload, and provide telephone coaching to clients between session, as necessary (within working hours). You will receive training and supervision in SCM and other key clinical approaches/ techniques.

You will be based in Carshalton and Wallington IRH, at the Jubilee Health Centre, in Wallington .

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To implement, in conjunction with other members of the team, plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patients mental health problems using SCM.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of allocated patients within the service model.
  • To participate in clinical and managerial supervision.
  • To be responsible for the flexible management of a defined caseload designed to meet the individual needs of the client and carers.
  • To work within policy, professional and legal frameworks at all times and have a clear understanding of ones Code of Professional Conduct, risk assessment and safeguarding children protocols, Mental Health Act and CPA, and Trust clinical policies
  • To ensure effective communication within the team and share relevant information as required.
  • To implement and/or participate in crisis intervention measures with the client/family or in conjunction with other agencies.
  • To supervise and monitor the therapeutic effects and side-effects of prescribed medication providing the client with clear advice and information.
  • To maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with Professional and Trusts record keeping standards.


Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of reflective practice, e.g. understanding and ability to use supervision to reflect on skills, attitude and knowledge and develop these by using evidence-based practice
  • Significant relevant clinical experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and audit
  • Knowledge of relevant professional and clinical national policy/ legislation, specifically for clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder


Desirable

  • Experience of Interagency working
  • Experience of managing a caseload
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Experience of supporting practice development in clinical areas
  • Experience in the delivery of psychological therapy, particularly for clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder
  • Awareness/knowledge of the issues surrounding social inclusion for mental health service users
  • Experience as a preceptor/ mentor


Education and Qualification

Essential

  • Current professional registration (Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist) OR Clinical Associate Psychologist OR undergraduate degree plus post-graduate practitioner diploma in psycho-social interventions or a related field


Desirable

  • Training in SCM or other evidence-based intervention for this client group
  • Post-registration qualification/ accreditation relevant to the post
