We are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity to join the Dental Team Education Centre as a Dental Nurse Trainer to work along side our experienced Foundation Training Team. In this unique role, the postholder will be involved with all aspects of training our Trainee Dental Nurses, aiding them in achieving their Level 3 City & Guilds Dental Nursing Certificate.

Main duties of the job

Training and Assessing:

1. Deliver training as described in the relevant training plan to student dental nurses and other dental team members

2. Support the provision of regular individual student reviews

3. Ensure that students understand and are familiar with the structure, assessment methods and portfolio building requirements

4. Facilitate observations of learners in the workplace

5. Communicate effectively with a variety of members of the oral healthcare team

6. Liaise closely with the other members of the training team

7. Assess other sources of evidence used by students in the compilation of their portfolios and give oral and written feedback.

8. Provide pastoral support to students

9. Comply with Awarding Body and Centre quality procedures

10. Be responsible for recording and maintaining support and assessment documentation

11. Deputise for the Training Co-ordinators ensuring continuity of service as required

12. Maintain confidentiality and security of portfolios, documentation and all other information relating to students or staff.

13. Take personal responsibility for keeping up to date including further studies, background reading and attending courses ensuring professional registration is maintained

14. Attend and contribute to a range of meetings

15. Participate in the selection process for new students as required ensuring the best candidates are given training opportunities as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Hold a nationally recognised qualification as a Dental Nurse
  • Registered as a DCP with the GDC
  • Hold or be working towards a teaching qualification (L3 or above)
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience of setting objectives, reviewing progress and giving feedback
  • Experience of managing difficult conversations
  • Full range of IT skills including spreadsheet analysis, PowerPoint and advanced keyboard skills
  • Excellent communication skills with a wide range of staff with differing levels of responsibility and different professional backgrounds
  • Ability to work pro-actively and co-operatively with all members of the dental team
  • An ability and interest in coaching others to improve performance
  • An interest in supporting the physical and mental health of others
  • Ability to manage self in terms of workload and deadlines


Desirable

  • Hold a Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent)
  • Hold a Post - Registration qualification
  • Experience of using a Virtual Learning Environment e.g. Moodle
  • Experience of using an electronic portfolio
  • Experience of awarding grades against set criteria
