Devon and Cornwall Sexual Assault Referral Centres provide care for people who have experienced sexual harm. We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced safeguarding nurse to join our multi-disciplinary paediatric and adult service teams at our centre of excellence, based in Exeter. To provide highly specialised advice and support the safeguarding response for children and adults who have experienced sexual abuse and assault. You will be working with a dynamic, forward thinking team of specialist forensic nurses and doctors, paediatricians and therapists who are all passionate about making a difference for our patients.
Devon and Cornwall SARCs are recognised nationally as a centre of best practice with their innovative, holistic and forward thinking approach to the delivery of services to those that have experienced significant trauma. We hold patient centred, trauma informed, shame sensitive care and safeguarding at the very forefront of all that we do.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).

The role will include
- Provide highly specialist advice and support on safeguarding issues, relating to Child Sexual Abuse, Sexual Violence and Domestic Abuse/ Interpersonal Violence consistent with the requirements of the Safeguarding Policies in regard to CSA and Sexual Violence to all staff within the SARC and wider organisation.
- Work within the SARC providing safeguarding advice and support for child protection and safeguarding adults concerns to all staff.
- Represent SARC at Strategy Meetings where CSA or Sexual Violence are considered.
- Assist the SARC, Trust and staff in their duty to protect children and adults from harm and abuse, working in line with the safeguarding principles as outlined by the Children Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and Care Act Statutory Guidance (2021) and keeping Making Safeguarding Personal core to the practice.
- Will deputise the Lead Nurse/ Safeguarding Lead in her absence for SARC safeguarding issues. and where appropriate to represent the SARC at Trust wide and external meetings.
