The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael's Hospital is one of the Lead centres for neonatal services within Bristol this tertiary unit provides intensive care for the population of Bristol and beyond. The Unit consists of 31 Cots, 15 Intensive, 8 High Dependency and 8 Special Care. The unit also supports 16 cots on the Transitional Care Ward. We provides care for very sick new-born infants with a wide variety of medical, cardiac and surgical conditions.

We are looking for an experienced enthusiastic nurse to join our Education team. As a Clinical Nurse Educator you will be expected to train and support members of the NICU team and need to show extensive evidence of knowledge and clinical expertise within the speciality.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an integral member of the Multidisciplinary Team within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will utilize skills of clinical expertise, leadership, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff.

You will work with the MDT to ensure the staff have the necessary up to date knowledge and skills to deliver excellent care to our patients.

They will work closely with the multidisciplinary team in hospital, the Southwest Neonatal Network and Universities to ensure a co-ordinated quality service and will be actively involved in education, audit and research.

You will jointly manage a small team of staff and over see placements for students, RNDAs and apprenticeships.

The post holder will be required to be available to work shifts Monday to Friday.

  • Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of experience as a Neonatal Nurse in a NICU environment as a band 6 or above
  • Significant experience working in a neonatal education role
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital setting
  • Mentoring/ SSIP qualification
  • Teaching and mentoring experience
  • NBLS and NLS
  • Management experience


Desirable

  • Teaching in an HEI

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • RSCN Part 8 / RN (Child Branch, Part 15) or RN or RM.
  • Qualified in speciality (QIS) in Neonatal care
  • GCSE A*- C in both English Language and Mathematics or equivalent in these two subjects e.g. Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 (E)
  • Teaching qualification at masters level or willingness to work towards
