Do you have a passion for cardiology and coronary care?
Would you like to be a part of our wonderful team in delivering excellent cardiac care to our patients at King's College Hospital?
If the answer is yes, then look no further. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dedicated nurse, with an interest and experience in coronary care, to join our friendly and supportive team at Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
King's College Hospital is a well-recognised Heart Attack Centre for Southeast London and provides a 24-hour Primary Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI) service. Being a tertiary care centre, Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Sam Oram ward work closely to provide specialist care to patients with various cardiac conditions. We receive both elective and emergency admissions within the unit and have heart failure, intervention, electrophysiology and Trans Aortic Valve Implant (TAVI) speciality teams.
The Coronary Care Unit is an 8-bedded monitored area that provides level 2 care for acutely ill patients requiring inotropic support, intra-aortic balloon pumps, non-invasive ventilation and temporary pacing. The remaining 17 bedded area in the Sam Oram Ward is dedicated to patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring using bedside monitors and telemetries and forms a step-down area for the level 2 patients.
Main duties of the job
The CCU is a fast-paced unit caring for acutely ill level 2 patients. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who will uphold the King's College Hospital values. On a day-to-day basis, you will be providing a high standard of nursing care to the cardiac patients. You will be working closely with Cardiac Catheter Lab Unit, Sam Oram Cardiology Ward and Emergency Department to support a smooth PAMI pathway for the patient. You will be working collaboratively with the management, clinical nurse specialists and the wider multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient care through various quality improvement initiatives.
As a nurse in charge and team leader you will take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse/ Head of Department. You will also assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses within the ward complement and also act as a positive role model to junior staff members. Particular emphasis is put at Kings on the need to ensure that all staff recognise their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Applicants for this role will ideally have at least 2 years of experience in a cardiac care area, however we would be interested to hear from nurses with established knowledge and skills looking to broaden their existing experience and move into cardiac.
