Be responsible for the delivery and development of the Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapy Services within Central London Community Health Care Trust (CLCH).

Main duties of the job

Regularly liaise with local GP's and other Health Professionals in relation to patient care and/or health promotion. To provide comprehensive discharge reports and clinical reports in a timely manner to referrers (such as GP) and patients and other relevant multi-disciplinary team members.

To consistently communicate effectively with patients and carers/family via clear verbal, non-verbal and written means to maximise rehabilitation potential. Use communication skills of negotiation, motivation, explanation and reassurance and working with interpreters when required.

Demonstrate compassion, empathy and sensitivity whilst providing an appropriate level of care according to the needs of the patient.

Working with other members of the team including junior and senior members of staff.

Job responsibilities

Undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, using investigative and analytical skills. Be aware of your professional limitations, seeking support as necessary through supervision, discussion with peers/more senior colleagues and team case discussions.

Demonstrate compassion, empathy and sensitivity whilst providing an appropriate level of care for patients with acute and chronic, complex presentations (which may include victims of torture, mental health patients, etc.).

Work autonomously to manage and prioritise own caseload, managing clinical risk (such as screening for red flags) with appropriate support from more senior staff. To use assessment findings in conjunction with recognised clinical reasoning models in order to formulate a diagnosis, develop a treatment plan and patient specific goals.

Be responsible for the maintenance of accurate written reports in line with CSP standards and trust policy. Including patient diagnosis, problem list and treatment plan. Monitor the record keeping of junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants and physiotherapy students.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • BSc Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council


Desirable

  • Member of a specialist group
  • CSP membership


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within NHS environment
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patient conditions
  • Experience of planning and delivering clinical supervision / mentoring to peers and less experienced physiotherapists


Desirable

  • Experience of assisting in projects within team
  • Experience at Band 6 level


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its influence on Service Development
  • Knowledge of recent research supporting or negating physiotherapy management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions
  • Knowledge of equal opportunities
  • Effective oral, listening and written communication skills in order to successfully assess and treat patients and manage their outcomes
  • Listening skills and interpersonal skills to discuss patient care with colleagues
  • High level of IST including presentation of IST & cases with the ability to teach other staff - juniors, assistants & students
  • Recognition of need for timely and accurate data
  • Awareness of NHS & Trust systems, policies, procedures & current changes

  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines and the NSF's
  • Presentation skills to lead and teach in-service training sessions
