We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual, who is preferably a part-qualified CCAB accountant, to join our Finance department in the role of Assistant Financial Accountant. The ideal candidate for this technical role will be highly motivated, able to deal with a varied work pattern and achieve tight deadlines.
Main duties of the job
Maintain the Trust Cashbook and act as the Trust Cash Accountant, monitoring the cash position on a daily basis.
Provide management information to the Senior Finance team on a daily basis related to cash holdings.
Act as the main Financial Accounting contact for Payroll, including actioning interim payments and reconciliation of related control accounts.
Prepare working papers required for monthly & quarterly NHSE monitoring returns and interim and final audits.

Job responsibilities
Daily monitoring and reporting of the Trusts bank accounts ensuring the Trust has sufficient funds to meet payments, salary and other commitments .
Monitoring the average balance held in commercial bank accounts and instigating appropriate action to ensure balances do not exceed DHSC recommendations for the year.
Receipt all direct payments made into the Trusts bank accounts. Investigate payments made without remittances. Journal, as required, payments made out of the Trust bank accounts.
Analyse cashbook transactions & produce short medium term cashflow forecasts for the Trust.
Reconcile bank & control accounts ensuring that balances shown in the Trusts financial ledgers are correct and any discrepancies are investigated and appropriate action taken.
Liaise with Payroll regarding pay queries. Action salary recalls & interim payments.
To assist in the co-ordination and preparation of the Statutory Accounts including preparing backing documents to confirm balances in the Accounts in accordance with national timetables.
Undertake monthly review of Payable & Receivable Balance Sheet codes to ensure accuracy of Statement of Financial Position (SOFP).
Assist with the co-ordination & completion of the NHS Agreement of Balances (AoB) process for Payables/Receivables & Income & Expenditure, including reconciliation to ledger.

- Up to date knowledge International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Detailed understanding of accounting principles and control account reconciliations.
- Experience of the provision of financial service (Treasury, Payables & Receivables) in a large complex environment.
- Experience of query resolution and problem solving

- Working knowledge of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Group Accounting Manual and understanding of NHS Finance
- Preparing working papers for internal & external reporting and participating in Annual Accounts Audit review
