We are delighted to invite applications to the Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (SCP) in Respiratory post, joining the SCPs in the Medicine team to deliver a specialised service to our respiratory patients at City Hospital including our more complex interstitial lung disease, chronic severe asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis patients.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop your portfolio of specialist knowledge and skills for the management of patients as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as build on your leadership abilities.

Main duties of the job

You will be jointly responsible for ensuring the further development of an excellent clinical pharmacy service to the respiratory and interstitial lung disease service alongside other SCP's for Respiratory. This will include working in outpatient settings.

You will provide complex, pharmaceutical care for patients, optimising their medicines, utilising your prescribing skills and ensuring the effective transfer of care.

You will work closely with the MDT, on & off the ward to support governance, education and medication safety within respiratory services.

You will be expected to line manage one or more of the band 7 pharmacists on the team, providing mentoring, and supporting them with their development and objectives which may include starting out as an independent prescriber.

You will mentor junior pharmacists working in respiratory, providing them with training, education and sharing your passion for respiratory.

Leading on a particular aspect (or aspects) of the clinical pharmacy service to the specialty

Actively participating in consultant-led ward rounds to promote and support medicines optimisation, antimicrobial stewardship and effective discharge planning by utilising prescribing skills

Providing an advanced level of clinical pharmacy service to the specialty

Involvement in education and training of a variety of healthcare professionals including diploma & trainee pharmacists, undergraduates and trainee advanced nurse practitioners.

Whilst this post is commissioned to be full time (equivalent of 37.5 hours per week) the service would welcome applications from those wanting a better work life balance. Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma/MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent qualification or experience


Desirable

  • Qualified as an independent prescriber


Experience

Essential

  • Wide post-registration experience including in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a specialty
  • Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty
  • Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals


Desirable

  • Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
  • Experience of working actively on national groups


Communication and Relationship

Essential

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Evidence of independence and team working skills


Desirable

  • Evidence of successful business case completion


Analytical and Judgement

Essential

  • Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes
