Opportunities have arisen for Band 6 positions in the Emergency Department.

Applications are invited from Nurses with experience of emergency medicine (Paediatric or Adult) who have first class leadership qualities and proven abilities to implement change. It is essential that you have a positive outlook and excellent communication skills, together with an ability to inspire and motivate others.

The work and pace can be challenging, there will be plenty of opportunity to put organisational skills into practice as well as the expert Clinical skills needed. We see all specialties including Paediatrics, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Medical and Surgical.

We are currently in an exciting stage of our department rebuild, with our Paediatric Emergency Department and separate Paediatric waiting area underway.

The overall purpose of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse is to provide Clinical and Managerial leadership to the Nursing and Multi-professional team. This includes acting as a Clinical leader and an expert Practitioner liaising, guiding and advising the Multidisciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care.

This will require the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to regularly review the Clinical records of patients under their sphere of responsibility, to evaluate the effectiveness of the standard of care planning and delivery, and to use the results to work with the team to improve patient outcomes. Within their leadership role they will be responsible for providing feedback on the evaluation of good and poor practice to team members ensuring effective role modelling and mentorship to the team.

They will also be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and Multidisciplinary team, assist in the auditing of Clinical standards of care within their Clinical area. This includes ensuring a good working environment in which all patients receive a high standard of clinical care.

Working Pattern:

There are 3 fixed term positions available (2 x 37.5 hours per week and 1 x 22.5 hours per week).

There is 1 substantive position available (1 x 37 hours per week)

Various shifts including Long days, Night shifts, Twilights, Early and Late shifts.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).
