The post-holder is a specialist speech and language therapist and will provide specialist interventions, under appropriate supervision, in voice and communication therapy for trans and non-binary patients both within individual and group settings according to competencies set down by service and in line with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. The post-holder will use developing knowledge and skills in voice and communication therapy, voice pedagogy, psychological approaches appropriate in voice work, and cultural sensitivity through ongoing training and supervision to deliver gender-affirming voice work. The post-holder will participate in service development initiatives, peer supervision and training, multi-disciplinary team working and as a member of the GIC Speech and Language Therapy service.

Main duties of the job
- To manage (with appropriate monthly supervision) a caseload of trans and non-binary patients reflecting developing specialist knowledge of voice and communication therapy,
- To provide specialist intervention in pitch, intonation, vocal fold mass, and voice quality in individual sessions, underpinned by a sound knowledge of counselling skills and awareness of other approaches such as Mindfulness.
- To work in clinic at least 4 days per week necessary for ongoing voice training and supervision, with some opportunities for remote working, as agreed by the Lead Consultant SLT and Head of SLT service.
- To provide specialist interventions to trans and non-binary clients in voice group therapy settings, in liaison with Lead Consultant Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Principal and Advanced Speech and Language Therapists.
- To input into SLT student placements, audit and research projects for the Speech and Language Therapy service, supported by the Lead Consultant Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Principal and Advanced Speech and Language Therapists.
- To demonstrate empathy and employ counselling skills with patients.
- To maintain patient/service user, colleague and staff dignity, respect and confidentiality at all times.
- To possess adequate sight, excellent hearing and skilled voice and auditory discrimination skills (including pitch matching and resonance contrast skills).
- To possess and develop personal experiential relationship with own voice and vocal pedagogy.
