We have an exciting opportunity for a senior neuromodulation nurse position within our Neuromodulation Service at Barts Health. You will work in conjunction with the Neuromodulation Consultants, Specialist Clinical Psychologist, Research Co-ordinators, Lead Pain Clinical Nurse Specialist to deliver safe and efficient care of neuromodulation patients across various sites at Barts Health. You will work within a highly experienced multidisciplinary team in the delivery of high quality, evidence-based pain management that our patients deserve.

The post holder will have the opportunity to lead on the development and coordination of a high-quality Neuromodulation Service across the Trust, through utilisation of your specialist knowledge and skills in providing expert health care to patients referred to the Neuromodulation Service. You will liaise with neuromodulation company representatives to organise and run reprogramming clinics for patients and set up study days with stakeholders and other specialists in the field. In addition, there will be learning opportunities to further develop specialist knowledge and skills to provide high quality neuromodulation care to patients in the Neuromodulation Service.

You must be able to demonstrate effective communication, leadership, and motivational skills, and be able to work in an extended multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

This is a great opportunity for a highly experienced, specialist band 7 neuromodulation clinical nurse specialist to develop into a Lead Neuromodulation Clinical Nurse Specialist, band 8a role This progression will be measured against this job description.

Band 8a acquisition will be evaluated after meeting competencies from the job description.

The post holder will:

Be responsible for professionally leading, coordinating and developing a high-quality nursing Neuromodulation Service across the Trust. You will be responsible for developing standards, policies, and pathways for clinical improvement, maintain an overview of governance, and identify trends for service improvement. You will also lead on audit, research and education relevant to the service.

You will be responsible for contributing to towards the day-to-day co-ordination and operational delivery of the Neuromodulation Service at Barts Health. This role plays a key part in ensuring that the highly complex pathways involved in delivering our neuromodulation service are safe and efficient. This will be monitored within an established governance framework.

In collaboration with the neuromodulation consultants, you will take responsibility for patients passing through the neuromodulation service, maintaining a professional approach at all times whilst ensuring that you are accessible to patients.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in working in neuromodulation at band 7.
  • Experience in working within a chronic pain service.
  • Experience of nurse-led and reprogramming clinics
  • Experience of quality assurance projects
  • Experience of audit and data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge/evidence of change management.
  • Evidence of service planning and development.


Skills

Essential

  • Established leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Effective multi-disciplinary team working and management of interdisciplinary groups and meetings.
  • Conflict management and resolution


Desirable

  • Experience in delivering teaching and public presentation skills (informal / formal)


Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of chronic pain services and the needs of inner-city populations
  • Knowledge and experience of pain management principles (inc. anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and chronic disease management).
  • Clear understanding of the Band 7 clinical nurse specialist role
  • Understanding of clinical governance structures
  • Awareness of current NHS and professional issues
  • Awareness of relevant professional guidelines


Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant MSc in pain management (or in process)
  • Specialist training to Master's level or equivalent experience


Desirable

  • University accredited Neuromodulation course
  • Independent Non-medical prescriber
