We are looking for an approachable, motivated and enthusiastic payroll specialist who understands the importance of providing a consistent, precise and dependable service in a fast-paced environment to join our internal payroll team as Payroll Team Leader.

Spanning ESNEFTs two acute sites, community sites and community services, you will play a crucial role in leading our payroll team maintaining an high level of customer service to our colleagues and ensuring all deadlines are achieved. As the payroll lead you will ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and be a source of expertise for the team.

Main duties of the job

  • You will manage, on a day-to-day basis the Trusts Payroll Team providing specialist Payroll support to them in addition undertaking appraisals and absence management.
  • Planning and organising the efficient distribution of total workload between team members to ensure all areas of payroll are completed in line with strict deadlines.
  • Work with a number of internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex queries, establish best practice and provide advice.
  • Make daily adjustments to plans and schedule in order to deal with organisation requirements and to ensure targets are met, including re-allocating work to the team to meet the organisational deadlines
  • Forward plan the workload in order to meet the department's objectives and deadlines, not only on a day-to-day basis but taking a longer-term view into account for future changes in the Trust or department which could impact on the team.
  • Be an active participant in the departments bitesize training sessions provided to managers across the Trust.

We welcome applications wanting flexible or hybrid working. Whilst working knowledge of NHS Payroll would be an advantage, we welcome applications with previous experience of working within a payroll environment who may not have previous leadership experience. There is the opportunity for this post to be offered as a developmental role with support to undertake an apprenticeship, Leadership courses and qualifications.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience plus further training and experience to post graduate diploma equivalent.


Desirable

  • Post graduate diploma
  • Payroll qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Previous senior payroll role.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Advanced IT Systems including - Microsoft Office.
  • Experience of communicating with a range of people both. within and external to the organisation.
  • Experience of dealing with complex payroll cases.
  • Line management.


Desirable

  • NHS Payroll experience
  • ESR experience
  • Project management
  • Working autonomously


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Advanced keyboard skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to deal with complex or sensitive information.
