Main duties of the job

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Therapy Services department at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) for a Physiotherapist to become an 8a Clinical Lead in women's health and pelvic health. This is a 12m post, with possibility for extension beyond this. It is based within our maternity services, with an aim to improve the prevention, identification, and access to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence-recommended treatment for pelvic health problems antenatally, and for at least 12 months postnatally.

The postholder will provide robust clinical leadership to both the teams developing and implementing the Perinatal Pelvic Health (PPH) Service, and those delivering care for these patients across the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Portsmouth (SHIP) Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS)About the team

Job responsibilities

UHS is a specialist tertiary centre for urogynaecology, gynaecology and colorectal pelvic floor services.You will be joining a small team of Physiotherapists, based within Princess Anne Hospital, which sits within the remit of University Hospital Southampton and is part of the wider Therapy services department.

This post is part of the wider Therapy services department of over 290 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff and you will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training.

We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist, with extensive experience and skills in womens pelvic health, to take on this new and exciting 8a Clinical Specialist role. The postholder will be the clinical lead for Pelvic Health and be responsible for providing specialised leadership and expertise for pelvic health services across the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Portsmouth (SHIP) Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS).The successful applicant will join our Womens Health Physiotherapy team, where they will be able to develop their therapeutic skills within the specialist areas of Urogynaecology and Obstetric, including intimate examinations. The postholder will receive regular support and supervision from an experienced team of therapists and MDT members.

This job role involves: Leading and coordinating pelvic health services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, and fostering professional development within the physiotherapy and maternity teams. Providing clinical leadership on the scoping, development, implementation, and commissioning of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service that aligns with the national service specification and meets the requirement set out within the Three-Year Maternity and Neonatal Delivery Plan (2023). As the clinical lead to provide expert clinical advice and guidance, on a range of matters relating to pelvic health to the ICB Local Maternity and Neonatal Service (LMNS), including progress on PPHS project delivery. Implementing and developing care pathways in line with NHS England's service specification for perinatal pelvic health services. Providing robust clinical leadership to the teams delivering care for women and birthing people through effective communication, influencing, and inspiring others, to deliver high quality care. Educating and developing physiotherapy staff and undergraduates in this specialty, and training other health professionals in aspects of pelvic health care.

Essential Skills:

Physiotherapy qualification HCPC registration Extensive post-graduate clinical experience working at a senior level in Womens Pelvic Health Postgraduate specialist training in womens health, or relevant subject Experience of audit, evaluation, and research Experience managing large collaborative projects, including engaging with, and influencing external stakeholders. Knowledge and understanding of NHS systems.
