The perfusion team are seeking to recruit for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join their friendly and committed team to work across site at Hammersmith Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital.

Applications are invited from accredited perfusionists registered with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland, with experience of adult perfusion practice including cell salvage and intra-aortic balloon therapy.

Approximately 450 adult procedures are performed at Hammersmith Hospital annually including mini bypass and minimally invasive procedures. We are one of three hospitals locally on a rotation covering an acute aortic dissection service. We operate a four-day working week with a 24/7 on-call service which also includes clinical support to the Trust's trauma service based at St. Mary's Hospital. There are also opportunities for involvement in research and personal development.

This post is advertised for a 1-year fixed-term contract to cover perfusion staff undertaking maternity leave from October 2024. Unfortunately, this post is unsuitable for limited-registration applicants.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the 24/7 on-call perfusion service at Hammersmith Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital.

o High level of competence in performing a broad range of routine adult clinical perfusion techniques and procedures.o Contribute to the maintenance of standards and quality in perfusion services.o Contribute to the education and training of trainee perfusionist and other staff groups.o Maintain good working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Perfusion Science or equivalent
  • Basic Accreditation with the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland
  • Active Registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland


Desirable

  • Advanced Accreditation with the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland
  • MSc in Perfusion Science


Experience

Essential

  • Experience with a range of adult perfusion techniques and with using perfusion equipment and devices
  • Experience in minimally invasive valve surgery
  • Competent in point-of-care testing including TEG


Desirable

  • Experience in minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation (MiECC) systems
  • Experience in VA-ECMO


Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Advanced computer literacy and IT skills
  • Ability to cope with pressure and stress when dealing with complex and/or emergency cases.
  • Has effective communication and negotiation skills


Desirable

  • Ability to develop departmental standards of practise/protocols specific to perfusion
  • Ability to demonstrate the application of expanded roles/skills within a clinical setting
