Provide clinical expertise in Oncology by providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers. Act as a resource, assess, contribute and deliver education to patients/carers, medical, nursing, AHP and social care colleagues, and students including primary and community care teams. Participate in the co - ordination of Oncological patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patients care pathway.Assist in the review and development of the Oncology service, reflecting the needs of the patients.Liaise with other members of the Multi - Disciplinary Teams (MDT), inpatient wards, outpatient departments and primary care, including GPs and Community Nurses.Monitor and improve standards of care through clinical audit, leading the development of practice through research.
Act as a key worker using specialist nursing skills and knowledge to holistically assess, plan care, evaluate needs and interventions for patients with confirmed cancer, undergoing curative or palliative oncological treatments.
The post holder will have responsibility and accountability for supporting a caseload of patients, acting as an advocate.
Holistically assess and plan care for patients with complex needs, planning, evaluating, co - ordinating and communicating care.
Work autonomously alongside members of the MDT, using evidence based learning.

Main duties of the job
- Provide a holistic, patient focused service for Oncology patients following their diagnosis, throughout their systemic anti - cancer treatments (SACT).
- Ensure that the patients are seen within the recommended time scales and required targets..
- Maintain clinical skills in venepuncture, cannulation and administration of IV medications/ SACT.
- Provide education, advice and clinical support to members of the MDT caring for Oncology patients receiving SACT.
- Monitor investigations and results, initiating further assessment of their treatment pathway as required..
- Obtain informed consent for specific procedures in line with Trust Policies and Procedures.
- Work closely with the Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team, Oncology Consultants, Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, Head of Nursing and Service/Occupational Manager.
- Act as the patient's advocate during treatment choices.
- Work within codes of practice, professional guidelines, NICE guidance and Patient Group Directions (PGDs).
- Participate in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.
- Engage in complex conversations with patients, their relatives and carers. Taking into account learning needs and mental capacity.
