The Nuclear Medicine service is a specialised diagnostic and therapeutic service based across four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital (HH), Good Hope Hospital (GH) and Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH). The case mix is highly specialised, and this is reflected in the range of investigations and treatments that are provided.
The training lead role will be vital in overseeing training provided to the clinical team and supporting apprentices' and trainee staff members.
Main duties of the job
The training lead will have responsibility for:
- Facilitating training within specialities
Supervision of training clinical staff ensuring provision of effective and efficient training systems
- Liaison with the management team to ensure clinical staff have the ability and resources to carry out training opportunities
- Acting as the clinical staff representative in strategic planning and department performance review
- Initiating and organising audit's
- Creating the roster to align with the training needs of the staff across all four sites

- BSc Hons Clinical Technology (nuclear medicine), Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
- Developed highly, specialist knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures (MSc level) -- gained from experience, short courses and study and to have rotated and actively participated in all areas of specialist work.
- Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD).
- Registered Clinical Technologist / Diagnostic Radiographer

- Significant diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Experience
- Specialist experience in functional imaging
- Experience of dispensing and administering diagnostic and therapy Radiopharmaceuticals
- Experience delivering training, supervising students, mentoring and assessing.
- Expected to carry out specialist procedures with highly complex equipment, adapting protocols where necessary.
- Experience of working within a quality management system.
- Have a working knowledge of a range of specialist practice. Innovative skills required to develop work procedures.
- Evidence of direct involvement with the technical support for a clinical nuclear medicine department, covering a full range of in vivo and in vitro procedures, therapy applications and radiopharmacy.
- Possess a developed specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of nuclear medicine imaging and non- imaging procedures and analysis. Able to perform a full range of diagnostic test procedures on patients of all ages including paediatric.
- Possess specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of radiopharmacy with the ability to dispense and administer intravenous radiopharmaceuticals.
- Able to devise, write and implement investigational protocols and procedures.
- Expected to carry out specialist procedures with highly complex equipment, adapting protocols where necessary.
- Knowledge of the safe use of expensive and highly complex imaging, non-imaging and related equipment (& gt 50,000)
- Has knowledge of NHS working environment within the field of nuclear medicine / PET.
- Demonstrates a specialist theoretical and practical knowledge relating to the hazards posed by and the precautions required when dealing with ionising radiation arising from sealed and unsealed radioactive diagnostic and therapeutic sources and patients.
- Has a high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge of radiation protection issues and radioactive decontamination.
- Has a developed understanding of patient, staff and public risks arising from radiation exposure.
- Has a high level of knowledge of radiation protection and legislation relating to nuclear medicine i.e, Ionising Radiations Regulations, Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations, Radioactive Substances Act, Medicines Act Radioactive Substances, Transport Regulations and Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC) guidelines.
