To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment interventions for the Forensic service users in our Low Secure Mental Health Unit, to carry a complex caseload as a member of the MDT and to take a lead in developing the Occupational Therapy service provision within the setting in Collaboration with the Professional Lead OT. Hertfordshire Forensic services provides high quality, secure care and treatment for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs. The secure services comprise the Medium Secure Services of Warren Court, Low Secure Services for men with a learning disability and Beech unit for men with mental health needs. We offer a high quality personalised service and believe it is fundamental that the patients are central and as involved as possible in their care package and the way the service is run for them. Our aim is to work with individuals to equip them with the skills and confidence to maximise their full potential.

Job responsibilities
To work effectively as a member of a team in providing an occupational therapy service within the LSU.
To provide Specialist Occupational Therapy advice, intervention and support given to service users and their carers.
To provide timely feedback to the MDT information regarding the service users wellbeing and occupational performance.
To provide timely feedback regarding any risks as they arise, and to contribute to regular team risk assessments of both individuals and relevant environments.
To provide a detailed occupational therapy report when required, within designated clinical area.
To use evidence-based practice to engage service users in meaningful and appropriate activities, to promote independence, recovery and well-being.
To provide ongoing assessment and adjustment of clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the service users.
Undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service.
To undertake risk assessments within clinical area as guided by local/Trust policies.

Main duties of the job
- To support the Professional lead OT in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within the LSU Mental health unit.
- To work collaboratively with service users to identify occupational goals.
- To contribute to overall team case formulation. To add relevant information related to occupational formulation, including occupational strengths and limitations to inform the teams intervention plan.
- To lead on Occupational therapy interventions with identified clients on the teams caseload, using evidence based/client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in prisons, probation, community settings and the individuals home environment.
- To provide interventions in a manner that is consistent with Trust standards and values.
- To apply the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and other standardised assessment approaches relevant to this setting and the individuals needs.
- To routinely provide detailed feedback to the MDT regarding observations in relation to occupational performance, which inform ongoing assessment and therapeutic intervention.
- To provide support and education to service users and carers regarding aspects of occupational therapy e.g. equipment fitting, rehabilitation programmes, sensory issues, management of symptoms through activity.

- BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration (or applied for)
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
Desirable
- Membership of ROCT
- Experience of working with people with personality disorder and mental health problems.
- Training in the use of the Model of Human Occupation in practice areas
- Practice Educators course completion
- Experience of supervising and managing junior staff
