We have an exciting and unique opportunity available within the Low Secure and Community Forensic Care Unit.

Community Forensic Services are part of the Forensic Care Group within the Trust.

We are seeking to recruit a Quality Matron to join our fantastic team, to provide clinical leadership to the community Forensic Services and contribute to the development of high standards of nursing practice within the clinical service. Individuals will work with the Head of Nursing and wider Senior Nurse and Leadership Group to ensure compassionate and effective care is provided to the patients across the Care Unit.

Main duties of the job

Community Forensic Services provide care and treatment to a wide patient population. The community forensic teams are a follows:

The post holder will be required to have flexibility and adaptability to support the leadership of a nursing and multiprofessional resource across a range of complex and diverse services to ensure all aspects of physical and mental healthcare needs are met. In addition, support and provide cover for the service manager as well as deputise for the Head of Nursing.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will actively contribute to implementing the strategies for complaints, clinical governance, recruitment, professional development, security, health and safety, performance and quality, infection control, essence of care, safeguarding, user involvement and physical health care within the Care Unit.

The post-holder will take responsibility for the development and delivery of evidence-based practice for patients with complex needs, ensuring that it supports and reflects patients individual needs, the trust objectives and professional guidance.

The post holder will develop ways to communicate with patients and receive their feedback and adapt services to meet individual patient requirements. To ensure a multidisciplinary approach is adopted, including the carer feedback to deliver positive and evidence-based care. To ensure continuous personal development through the utilisation of regular supervision, annual appraisal and training where appropriate.

The post holder will also be be responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures within the Care Unit and actively engage in service improvement and policy development within the Forensic Care Group and wider Trust utilising specialist knowledge and experience.

Your role as a Quality Matron would include:
  • Leading direct Care to complex patient groups and role model to junior staff
  • Knowledge of complex safeguarding issues and support into the management processes
  • Ensure patient experience is positive, the environment is pleasant, clean, comfortable and suitable for its use at all times and liaising with other departments as a necessary
  • Act role model for staff promoting positive performance and challenging poor or sub-standard care and standards.
  • Provide professional and managerial leadership, support and assist in the development of strategies, mentorship and managerial supervision for identified nursing colleagues within the Care Unit.
  • To undertake investigations and reviews as required and fully participate in all aspects of clinical leadership. This will include leading quality improvement, service development and ensuring performance and conduct standards are achieved.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and selection of staff , in liaison with the Human Resources and recruitment and retention teams
  • To take personal and professional responsibility for the provision of high-quality service, within areas of practice. The post-holder will support and locally promote the quality strategy of the Trust and the Care Group.
  • In conjunction with the Operational, Service Managers and senior colleagues, implement key performance indicators, which enable the service provided to be assessed and monitored in line with Clinical Governance and the service Clinical Strategy objectives.
  • To assess daily the IPC standards on a ward and CQC KLOE standards and manage accordingly
  • To lead and be part of QI projects to enhance service delivery and patient experience
  • To update, maintain and clinical knowledge of national, Trust wide and local mental Health and Learning disability health initiatives in order to contribute and maintain service development and good stands of care cascade.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional qualification RMN, RNLD,
  • significant post registration experience in Mental Health or Learning Disabilities at a Masters level or equivalent


Desirable

  • Management qualification [or equivalent]


Training

Essential

  • Evidence of professional development in a broad range of post registration training courses in subjects such as teaching, supervision, report writing and leadership skills development.
  • Clear clinical expertise in achieving quality care and positive patient experience


Desirable

  • Teaching, influencing, negotiation and supervision training.


Experience

  • Relevant experience in management and leadership position(s)
  • Experienced leader / influencer of teams and services with evidence of effecting positive change processes
  • Experienced team worker, effectively working in a secure environment and working within multi professional services

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Expertise underpinning theory acquired through nursing qualification and by accredited training and experience with ability to provide skills, knowledge and experience to nursing and security teams.
